transferring to a university from a community college

What do you need to transfer to a university from a community college? I am planning to go to a community college and transfer to a university. I am getting conflicting information. I have even been told to take the SAT, while others say that the SAT is not necessary. Any advice is welcome.

Your community college will have a Transfer Advisor whose whole job is just to help students trans fer into good places. Get to know that person, and start collecting their advice.

Many community colleges have formal articulation agreements or guaranteed transfer agreements with 4-year colleges and universities. Find out if there is one for your major. If there is, you are guaranteed that admission provided you fulfil the requirements.

Each college/university you apply to as a transfer will have its own requirements. If you can’t determine what they are, contact the transfer admissions office and ask. Some may require an SAT/ACT score. Many others won’t.

It depends on the university and the community college. People here may be able to help you better if you name them.

Usually, state universities have transfer credit articulation listings that show which courses at community colleges are equivalent to those at the university. They should also have information on general transfer requirements and what courses are needed for each major.

The schools are UW Tacoma, Western Washington University, Washington State University, Olympic College.
