Alright, just got accepted to CALS as a sophomore transfer! Woo!

Anyway…I live all the way down in the South, so I want to fly in. Is that possible? Is there a nearby airport? And…would the school send someone to pick me up at the airport?

Also…when people fly in, how do they usually get their things to the dorm? I mean…airports and that luggage limit…

Last…does CALS have like it’s own…section and dorms? Like all the CALS people are together?

Thanks!

There are a few airports near Ithaca. Ithaca, Binghamton and Syracuse are the closest and most use Ithaca or Syracuse. Cornell will not send anyone to get you. But you can easily take a cab from Ithaca airport and there is a limo service to get you from Syracuse to Ithaca.

My friends who live in Cali brought 2 suitcase for clothes and toiletries. They shipped everything out (including their cars!)

CALS does not have its own section or dorms. You will live with people from different majors and colleges.

Thanks dew.

Since they don’t have their own section or dorms…and you can take classes from any college…what’s the point of having different colleges?

Because otherwise the architects and the engineers wouldn’t get along.

You can take classes in any college…for the most part. Some classes are only open to those studying the major.

As for why we have so many colleges…well, we have sooooo many programs of study. And, we then we have the specialized colleges (Hotel, AAP, ILR)…so it would be kind of weird if all were clumped into one school. Many colleges are like this. My 1st college had the school of liberal arts and sciences, the school of engineering, school of business, school of education…it’s not unusual.

Just my own 2 cents.

Oh, okay.

Well sounds fun, I can’t wait.

Where can I find a course catalog?

Google is your friend!

[cornell course catalog - Google Search](<a href=“cornell course catalog - Google Search”>cornell course catalog - Google Search)

Having different colleges for different types of subjects gives the different areas more autonomy than if everything was just under one school. Also admissions criteria for different schools is different.
