Transferring to Ole Miss second semester of freshman year

Hey y’all! I am a senior in high school and i got deferred fall semester but admitted spring semester at ole miss next year. is I got into the College of Charleston but i really don’t want to go there and i desperately want to go to ole miss. It really sucks because i have to wait for all fall while everyone is rushing and meeting new friends while I’m attending a school i do not want to go to. i already put my deposit down for spring at ole miss and set on going there. Long story short, do you think it will be hard to for me to transfer second semester when everyone already has met new friends and are in sororities. i have a few friends at ole miss but i just have a feeling it is going to be hard for me to fit in second semester!

Are you getting any scholarship money offered to you? If you are, it may not be offered to you as a transfer student. You also need to look at transfer requirements. It may be harder to transfer in than be admitted directly after HS.

Why start any other school instead of waiting for spring ?

Its not a matter of fitting in with schools, its more about what you are doing with your life. If you know how to network and talk to people, you should be good.

Why are you planning to enroll at U of Charleston if you intend to switch to Ole Miss. second semester? That is just silly!

Accept the January admission at Ole Miss. Ask to be put on a waiting list for a space in the fall semester. Some people will be admitted off that waiting list. You might be one. Get a job or an interesting volunteer position, and make some money and keep yourself occupied until January.

If you are afraid that you will forget everything you’ve ever learned in a semester off, then ask the people at Ole Miss. if it would be OK for you to take one or two classes at your local community college, or enroll in some non-credit MOOCs online.

my parents want me to go to CofC so i can get the real college experience and move out. Ole miss said if i meet their requirements such as test scores and gpa then i can be admitted for the fall. My gpa is very close to their requirements but not my test scores. They said they are waiting to see my grades plus i am going to pay out of state tuition. Do you think they are just trying to give me an incentive to work harder/not slack off because ole miss seems like the school where they just want the money!

Another thing to consider about sororities . Ole Miss has GPA requirements to participate in Greek life. If your GPA is marginal for admission , I’d check to see what the GPA requirement is for participation in Greek life.

Of course they are trying to give you an incentive to work harder! They want you to have that better GPA and that better test score! They want solid evidence that you have what it takes to succeed at their university. They have no reason to admit a marginal student who is at risk of failing out or dropping out and damaging their four year graduation statistics.

I can understand that you feel that you are in love with Ole Miss, but if your grades are borderline, and your test score is low, your parents’ assessment that CofC is a better place for you may be the correct one.

Are you instate for College of Charleston @mollycyrus123? Both CofC and Ole Miss have similar GPA and test score requirements . Do your parents want to you to attend CofC because it’s closer to home ?

Recruitment at Ole Miss is very competitive. GPA is an easy way for sororities to make cuts. Go to CofC and study hard. If you still want to transfer, Ole Miss sororities will be looking at your CofC GPA, which will hopefully be higher. Some houses may offer spring bids, and if you know some girls there, they can help you.

yes i actually live in charleston. They want me to attend cofc first semester as i wait for ole miss second semester,
