My son is a Freshman at a University in the state of GA, he was accepted to University Park as a Freshman but decided to go to this school so he would get the chance to play baseball. He was injured during the Fall and won’t be playing this Spring. He regrets not going to Penn State but after reading the information on the website we understand he can’t transfer as a Sophomore. Does anyone know if there are ever any exceptions to this? Also, does anyone know if he could be admitted as a Freshman in the Summer if he has less than 30 credits? If so, how many credits would put him over the limit? He has a 3.6 GPA. Any info you can provide would be appreciated!
Students with fewer than 17 college credits are considered freshmen at Penn State: http://admissions.psu.edu/info/future/firstyear/
He could probably transfer to a branch campus and then again to UP for junior year with everyone else.
Some majors do not take junior transfers at all. Check the website for eligibility.
Could your son transfer for this spring? I know classes start next week but that could be an option. If so call admissions asap and explain situation - If he cannot transfer until fall then he may need to wait until he is a Jr
or go to a branch.
Wish he could have gone this Spring but he has a lease on an apartment for the entire year and we couldn’t afford out of state tuition and another apartment.
Can he sublet and not register for the spring? That’s his only chance of going to UP. If he attends the ga University in the spring he’ll have to spend at least a year at a branch campus.
You cannot transfer into UP as a sophomore standing. If your son has enough credits after fall of his sophomore year, he may be able to transfer in as a junior standing. Otherwise, you have to go to a branch campus first and then go to UP.
Thanks for the info. Time to make a new plan.
