i’m a chemE student at UD and i want to transfer to rutgers but i’m not sure if it’s the best idea given that UD has a high ranking program for my major. i’ve seen a lot of people say ranking doesn’t matter and does it actually not? i cant see myself staying at this school another 3 years but if i have to then i will but i really wanna transfer out. does anyone know how my credits will transfer and whether or not its worth it to transfer to rutgers
Why do you want to transfer? What do you think will be better at Rutgers?
Are you in-state for either university?
What is it about UD you don’t like? I have UD and Rutgers graduates, my UD graduate didn’t even apply to in state Rutgers.
i’m in state for rutgers so it’d be slightly cheaper. i’m not a fan of the campus at UD and i’d rather be more up north. also with rutgers, i’ve heard they have connections with pharma companies and post grad i want to go into the pharma industry. i’ve done a lot of research into why ud is ranked so high for chemical engineering but they’re kind of generic responses such as “faculty is great, you have connections to industry” but i haven’t found anyone say they were able to secure an internship/job because they went to UD. i acknowledge my desire to transfer is very emotionally based so that’s why i’m having trouble deciding
You need to talk to someone at Rutgers about what credits they will accept.
Securing an internship is going to be on you regardless of where you go to school. Both schools have ties to the pharma industry.
Here are the 2024 ChemE outcomes for UD: Career Outcomes | University of Delaware
Even though UD is highly ranked for ChemE partially because of outstanding outcomes, that may be less important than fit, be it financial or something else.
Here are Rutgers outcomes. Only 28 Cheme students reporting outcomes, which is 91.6% of the graduating class. So, UD ChemE class is about 3x the size.

What is your GPA? Did you apply to Rutgers out of HS?
UD is highly ranked - Delaware is the Mecca of chemicals
Too many conflate rank with job success. You will create your job success. You can get to the same place from either. If you don’t like U Delaware, as a flagship, I’m not sure how different Rutgers will be. And it’s not that much further North. Maybe Rutgers won’t work either in that sense.
The fact that you can’t stand Delaware is reason enough to leave - if you’ve given it long enough.
Btw - very difficult for first years to find an internship. Anywhere. Are you home sick ?
Good luck
