I’m currently a first year at VWCC and I’m applying to UVa for Fall 2016 admission. I plan on majoring in biology or biochemistry. I’m basically looking for any opinions on my chances of getting in or any advice on transferring. I was denided when I applied straight out of high school. My high school GPA was a 4.0 and my extracurricular activities were JV softball freshman and sophmore year, travel softball from middle school to junior year, a member of the National Honors Society, tutoring pre-IB and IB chemistry, and volunteering at the library. I lacked leadership positions and I know my recommendations were not good. My grades for my first semester at VWCC were: BIO 101: A ENG 111: A MTH 163: A HIS 121: A and PSY 200: A. According to my unofficial transcript I currently have a CUM GPA: 4.0 with 16 credits. I’m enrolled in BIO 102, CHM 111, MTH 271, SPA 101, ENG 112 (18 credits) for spring semester. I volunteer at the library, I’m head chairman of the public relations committee for the Circle K Club, member of Biology club, tutor, work part-time (15-20 hours a week), and I’m planning on shadowing a doctor in the neurology department of a nearby hospital this summer. I’ll hopefully be joining the honors societies at VWCC as well. ACT: 29 and I’m also a first generation college student.
