I just graduated from high school. I was rejected by USC and basically every California school I applied to, but I was accepted to Boston College which I am very lucky for. It is ranked about 31st in the country which not too far off from USC. I am not sure that I would really like the east coast though, and USC has been my dream school for years. Now I am wondering if it would be easier to go to BC and transfer after a year if I hate it or go to my local community college and transfer? Is either option significantly easier? I mean BC is one of the top schools in the country and I was lucky to even get in.

dream school for years.

^ignore the last few words which I forgot to delete

Also, I got great financial aid from BC

Go to BC. If your transfer app is rejected, you will be at a quality institution instead of a crap junior college.

Go to BC, get great grades there and then reapply to USC if you still wish. But beware, your FA from USC, for your first year as a transfer student, might not be as good as your FA package from BC. Transfer students are often “low man on the totem pole” when it comes to handing out FA. First dibs go to Freshman, then continuing students, then transfer students. It may “meet need” but have lots of loans included .

There is a lot to be said for community colleges, but in your case, if you can afford BC, it sounds like it will offer you a better platform for either finishing your degree right there or transferring later. If you can get good grades at BC, you will probably be a more desirable transfer candidate than somebody who is getting the same good grades at a community college.

And people who start at community colleges know that they face the inevitable task of transferring. (With the reality that transfer students are not typically offered merit money.) But by starting at BC, you are not compelled to transfer, in order to finish the bachelor’s. It would simply be an option. You may get in there and find that you become very happy with BC.

Everything I’ve read says BC is a great school. I was considering it when looking at schools to apply to for transfer for a business major. There is a subway stop right by the school so you can easily hop on it to get into downtown Boston whenever you like and the campus is apparently quite beautiful. That being said, there is only one USC :)

If I was in your shoes, I’d go to BC with an open mind but at the same time plan your class schedule out to set yourself up to be able to apply for transfer elsewhere if you’re not happy.

Go speak to an admissions person at USC and ask them what they think. I think its better to ask them than us.They will be open with you.

Boston College is a great school. Very difficult to get into for those on the east coast. Take the great FA offer and go!
