Hi, I am currently transferring with a 3.7 GPA. My major is animation and I’m currently trying to transfer to either USC, LMU, SCAD, Woodbury University, or California College of the Arts. I’m not as worried about Woodbury or even SCAD, but I’m wondering if I have a chance of getting into LMU or even CCA?
Have you looked at the common data sets for any of these?
If you look up ‘university name’ common data set and then download the most recent one, in section D you can see how many people were admitted in the most recent cycle.
For example, USC admitted 2483/8179 applicants, meaning they had a transfer acceptance rate of 30.36%
On most of these, yes, but i’m wondering if I have a good chance of getting in rather than the acceptance rate overall
USC and LMU are highly competitive programs, Im not sure about the others but I would think you have a higher chance of getting into CCA since it seems more like a technical school, and since it is strictly an arts school, each department is bigger so they can accept more students into the program rather than public and private universities that don’t specialize in any one department. In art related programs, high stats are not enough to guarantee admission. It all comes down to other factors such as your portfolio and relations to the colleges (parents are alumni or employees). I applied to LMU as well. It helps to be a transfer student, and to be a resident. LMU seems to be a very diverse campus so I think it’s possible to get in with a good GPA, average portfolio, and strong admissions essay. Best of luck!
@filmfiend91 thanks for the info! My dad used to work at USC so I’m hoping my portfolio is enough (I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s all coming down to.) I’m not quite sure how I would judge my essay for LMU, but I’m certainly still hoping I get in because Ive worked hard on my portfolio. CCA seems like a really good school so I’m really hoping they accept me into their school.
If you worked hard on your portfolio and you dad has ties to USC then I think your chances are really good.
