Just finished freshman year and want a change of major(s), but i was attending a school with low academic standards simply because they had a great program for my major. I’m certainly cut out for a better university, but went to this school that I don’t really care for. Now that I want to transfer, I’ve missed fall deadline for all the schools I’m interested in.

For the sake of saving money on housing/tuition and taking more rigorous academic courses in my “between-time” of transferring, I’m thinking of attending my local university for fall semester. I applied in time and will hear back in a few weeks. it’s highly ranked for academics, and I can save money on housing and tuition for the semester. Then, I would ideally want to transfer elsewhere in the spring, my main school of interest being another state university.

I have a great GPA from my first school and intend to work my butt off to pull off another strong semester at my local uni (which I feel confident I’ll achieve). Will admissions folks from my “end goal” school see this double transfer negatively, or understand? I know initially it seems like I was indecisive, but I do have my reasons, you know?

I don’t want to take time off when I can be knocking out geneds, but going back to my old school seems pointless too.
I’m not terribly concerned about the social side of things–I’m close with only one or two students at my old school (one of whom was a transfer herself and has been helping me as I make this change), and I don’t intend to have much social life this fall. Sounds lame, I know, but I’m no partier anyway, and living at home, perhaps getting a job to save some money, and trying to really focus on school will probably keep me busy enough. It would all be worth the social experience at a college i actually WANT to attend, which I’ll enjoy once I get there.
