Transferring With A Record

I am currently taking classes at my local community college and have been making A’s and B’s. I had been taking classes at the community college in my home town right out of high school and wasn’t exactly an attentive student. I ended up receiving an academic dismissal for having a GPA of 1.67. After deciding to start working full time and saving up to go back and try to raise my GPA so I could apply to a four year university I am finally to the point that I think I am ready to try and transfer. Although I have retaken a couple classes that I had received F’s in and am enrolled to take the rest of the failing classes on my transcript this next spring I am still a little worried if I will be able to apply and be accepted to UMKC. After researching the admissions criteria at UMKC, they factor all grades into the transferring GPA whether you have retaken them, and gotten better marks or not. After this spring semester, as long I receive at least B’s in all the classes I will have a total GPA of around 2.2. With my terrible transcript from my first run at college are my chances still good enough to be accepted as a transfer or should I wait one more semester of classes at the community college to apply? I know this is vague, but I am just worried that having an academic dismissal a few years back may completely hinder my ability to be accepted to a university. If anyone may have any experience with this, any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks
