Transferring with scholarship?

So I’m a freshmen in college right now, and I received a scholarship to play softball. More or elss, what do I do if I’m not happy at th school that I’m playing softball at? What if I want to go play softball at a community college? Could I still receive a scholarship for maybe my sophomore year? How does that work? Does it even work at all?

Athletic scholarships are through the college. Leave the college, lose the scholarship. You would have to talk to the coaches at the schools where you are considering transferring to see about scholarships there.

How would / should I go about talking to another college about it? I just think that the way the softball program is being performed is poor

You need to see if you need to get your coach’s permission to speak to another school first. Usually you can go down levels without permission but YOU need to be sure. You can call the NCAA and ask them the question and they will tell you to go ahead or to fill out the form for transfer. Not many CC give athletic scholarships, but some junior colleges do. If you haven’t played any games for your current school, you may want to leave before you do, sit out the year, and start fresh

Most coaches will release you if you are going to a lower division school, or sometimes even if you stay in the same division but go to a different conference school. You must ask.

And don’t say that you don’t like the way the coaches are running the program, but that you think it is not a good fit for you, you don’t think it is a good academic fit, or stay silent.
