Transferring

I’m an international engineering student about to attend UCLA this fall. Now home is much closer to the easy coast, and traveling to LA is pretty expensive so if I can transfer here we’d save a lot of money. My q is, would u say transferrig to Cornell would be a downgrade? Cos according t prestige rankings ucla is better and according to othe rankings it’s the better engineering school. Now I know rankings arent everything, ao what do u guys think? Upgrade, downgrade, or same?

I would worry more about actually getting accepted as a transfer student first.

If youre talking about the USNews rankings ( I guess its what you mean by prestige) Cornell is rankied 15th and UCLA 21st.
If you’re talking about distance of LA - Its as many hours of straight flying to LA from NY as driving to Cornell from NY. If you factor getting out of airport, getting on bus to NY and then getting on bus or train to Ithaca, then LA is a shorter trip.
I assume you’re not from Asia since then LA would actually be easier. European flights cost pretty much the same to NY Atlanta Denver LA. Quite possibly trips from Latin America are more to LA than to NY. But it would not be enough money saved.
Sorry but your question is truly misinformed.

He was talking with respect to engineering.

Thank you Wongtongtong.

I was referring to times higher education rankings, in which UCLA is 9th worldwide and Cornell is 15th or something. Fine forget about the costs and all, is engineering at Cornell equally good, better than, or worse than at UCLA? I dont need ppl calling me misinformed and analyzing me, an answer to the q would be much appreciated.
