Is anyone else thinking of transferring to Kenyon for fall of 09? I’m applying to transfer from NYU and I can’t wait! I hope I get in.

I am also thinking about transferring. Woo!

I, too, am applying for transfer admission to Kenyon. Looking at the list of colleges I have applied to, already, it certainly looks out of place (all other schools, except one, are big city universities). It’s the school my father went to, though, and I thought I’d give it a try.

My concern is that my test scores aren’t up to Kenyon’s standards. Hopefully my college GPA (4.0 for first two quarters), strong essays, good recommendation, and the fact that my father attended will weigh more.

dreamer121: since you are transferring out of NYU for Kenyon, i was wondering what your reasons were. i’m in the process of choosing a college, and kenyon + nyu are both on my list.

thank you!

sure! Basically, at NYU I felt like I was entirely missing out on college. NYU is straight up real life–you are submerged in a huge city and are left to fend for yourself with very little assistance from the administration. I thought I would love living in a ‘real world’ situation, but as time has gone by I just feel so…cheated out of what college should be.

I personally want to feel like part of a community in college, and i LOVE the students at Kenyon. They all seem so nice, passionate, and welcoming which I liked a lot (definitely hard to find at NYU). Everyone at nyu is very self absorbed, snobby, and mostly FILTHY rich. Again, its exactly like the real world. The academics are okay, but I really want to learn in a more intimate environment with smaller class sizes etc. I want to go to grad school for history and CAS at nyu sort of sucks (def go for Stern or Tisch though).

Don’t get me wrong–its a great school for some people. I would suggest coming to nyu if you are looking for a completely atypical college experience. If you want to feel like a part of a community however, look elsewhere. Hope that helps! Feel free to message me with any other questions :)

Kenyon’s website indicates transfer applications and materials must be received by April 1st. However, the Common Application indicates that Kenyon’s application must be completed by April 15th. This has put me in a quagmire. I submitted my application, via the Common Application, on April 3rd; none of my documentation (transcripts, recommendation, etc.) have been sent. Am I in the clear? That is do I really have eleven more days to send in my materials or have I missed the deadline and my chances for enrollment at Kenyon for Fall 2009?

If I did miss the deadline, but do get all of my materials in next week (this won’t be challenging), will I still be evaluated by Kenyon’s admission team, despite my tardiness?

Obviously I will contact Kenyon on Monday, but I thought I would check with you guys in the meantime.

Thanks!

Only having the app in should be ok, as I think supporting materials can lag the deadline a bit. Call Kenyon ASAP Monday morning though, and get everything sent in priority mail with signature receipt. If possible have your recs given to you in sealed envelopes with signatures on the flap break for the tamper check and mail them yourself to be sure they are sent.

I called Kenyon and they said that it was fine to go by the April 15 deadline. I am the opposite of you, Honus-- I have all of my stuff submitted but not my application yet.

I forgot about this thread, sorry for my lack of an update. Yes, Kenyon is allowing till the 15th for materials to be sent it. None of my materials are longer in my hands. My transcripts have been sent, statement of good standing from current institution has been sent, and my letter of recommendation form was given to my professor earlier this week. I guess it’s time to sit down and wait it out!

Does anyone know how generous Kenyon is with financial aid for transfers (particularly need-based aid)?
