Transgender at Notre Dame?

Hey, guys.

I’m thinking about applying to Notre Dame for grad school but am a little concerned. I’m agnostic, mostly atheist, but I’m totally fine with other people’s religions and in fact find it interesting to learn about them.

However, I’m transgender, and even though most people won’t know it by the time I start grad school (seeing as I’m already regularly read as male nowadays), I’m just wondering: are many students/faculty against the LGBT community because of their religious beliefs? What is the cultural climate like in that regard?

The best way to find out how LGBT friendly a college is, is to check it on Campus Pride site, I’ve searched for Notre Dame and found several articles showing that there is friendly climate towards the community. Read this one for e.g/ - https://www.campuspride.org/campus-pride-commends-notre-dame-graduates-on-walking-out-during-commencement-ceremony/

Campus Pride also announces the top most LGBT friendly campuses each year, you can browse through their lists and look if Notre Dame had ever gotten in. Here is the list of 2017 https://search.university/blog/campus-pride-the-most-lgbtq-friendly-colleges-of-2017

I’m not directly answering your question, sorry. But as no one else commented, I thought it’s better to say something, than ignore

I’m a parent of a current student. I think there is some type of LGBT organization at Notre Dame, because I remember reading that the student body rallied in favor of one and got the university to establish one. So hopefully that speaks to some level of openness to the LGBT community. I don’t think your religious beliefs are something to worry about. The school is predominantly Catholic, the “most Catholic” of the major Catholic schools. But as long as you don’t mind seeing the expression of that religion, it won’t be forced on you.
