I am trying to figure out it it is reasonable, safe and affordable to take a cab or car service from Newark Penn station to Hasbrouck Heights. Have any of you taken car service from the train station and do you have a recommendation of a company to use?

There’s a cab stand on the west entrance to newark penn station. I’ve never had a problem catching a cab.

I would consider calling some car services and get the rates. I have gone to Penn Station Newark many times to get a train and when I checked the airport car services the price for the 20 minute trip from my home to the station was going to be more than the train ticket. Cabs might be cheaper.

Don’t know if taking a bus is desirable but NJ transit bus #76 goes from the Newark Train station to Hasbrouck Heights.

I called one cab company and they said it would be a $50.00 trip from the train station to Hasbrouck Heights, so I hung up haha.

For a meter cab, it’s probably $35, including tip.

I live 15-20 minutes from Newark Airport and it’s a $42 fare. NJ is not a cheap place to live.

Another option is a train to either Wood-Ridge or Teterboro, which are on the SE & NE, respective corners of HH. You would take a train from Newark Penn towards NYC, getting off in Secaucus and transfer to the Pascack Valley line. Total travel time is ~25-45 minutes on a weekday depending on the time of day. Cost = $5.25 (buy ticket before boarding - you must to transfer in SEC)

Here’s a schedule:

Thanks for the tips everyone! I think we have it worked out.

CC is such a help for so many things, and this thread just proves it once again :-)

Fwiw, I’d like to confirm that there are no safety issues with a cab.
