My daughter is leaving for her semester abroad program out of JFK airport and wants me to come to the airport with her. It seems the program has a meeting for the students and parents before they board the plane and my daughter said most parents will be there; of course most of the other students live closer than we do, but it give me an excuse to go to NYC for the day!!

When I fly back home, I would like to fly out of Newark or LaGuardia as it would be much cheaper. Which airport would be the easiest to get to on a Thursday evening between 7:00-9:00pm? Would I be better to cab or train between JFK and Newark or LaGuardia.

I don’t know what time the meeting is yet, but my hope is that it will be early enough for me to get a flight out that night.

JFK is close to Laguardia
its hard to get to both from the city because of LI traffic—intense
But on a Thursday around 7-9, there’d be rush hour traffic out of the city to nj…

but the traffic to nj is a lot better then the traffic to LI<that gets=“” tres=“” congested=“” soooo.=“” if=“” you’re=“” going=“” from=“” jfk–=“”>your airport, it’d be Laguardia
If you’re going to JFK, then the city, then your airport, I’d say Newark.</that>

Sorry I didn’t make that clear; I will be dropping daughter off at JFK, attend the meeting at the airport and then try to get on a flight back home out of either Newark or LaGuardia. My flight will be on a Thursday night in January, after the holidays.

My flight will be the same night as my daughters, so I do not think I will have tons of time to get to the airport. I am looking for the quickest and easiest airport to head to.

I agree with woody-JFK is a straight shot up to LGA. Once you get closer to 7:30-8 p.m., you will be past the rush hour. We’re talking less than 30 minutes without traffic. It’s only about 12 miles from one airport to the other.
