Travel DC - Hotel

Any recommendations for a hotel walking distance to the National Mall, the National Gallery of Art , the American History museum. Going in a few days and hate the cold but prefer to walk. Thx

JW Marriott, standard Marriott, but quite convenient to your locations.

Check to make sure the museums will be operational if government shutdown continues.

@treschicos

BUT they will be evaluating the situation after January 1.

@TatinG when are you going? Yes…do check.

There are the Grand Hyatt and Washington Marriott at Metro Center - next door to each other.

We stayed at the Courtyard Embassy Row a few years ago. We walked everywhere easily, and we were able to access public transportation for places like Georgetown with no problems.

Any hotel very close to the metro line. That way you don’t have to worry about parking your car in DC.

We stayed at the Phoenix Park Hotel way back nearly 20 years ago. It was near the National Mall and Grand Central Station where they had a reasonably-priced food court. We had two double beds and they let us have our kids in our room, so 4 people.

I’d stay at the DC wharf hotels amazing location plus they have a board taxi to Georgetown and Alexandria

It’s been awhile but we stayed at Grand Hyatt. It’s a business oriented hotel but had direct access to Metro. You go to lobby, down escalator, down another escalator and you’re in a Metro Transit center with as I remember access to 4 out 5 lines.

The fact of matter is you’re in DC, you can expect to walk. As examples, we were able to walk to Ford’s theatre, White House, etc.

Thanks all. I’ve made a selection. And I do love to walk. Much nicer than riding the Metro as long as it’s not raining.

I’m a big fan of the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City. Not in DC but right above the metro line so transportation is easy and quick to the National Mall area and its attractions including the museums. You can often get very good rates that compete with more modest hotels in DC proper.

^^I’ve stayed at the Ritz Carlton Pentagon City–got a great price/great room. That being said, if the OP wants to walk to the National Mall area museums and such, I’d stay at The Willard/Intercontinental on Pennsylvania Ave. It’s a great old hotel and an easy walk to all the sites. Have a drink in the hotel bar–it’s a classic.

^^^The Willard would be my choice if I wasn’t always chasing SPG/Marriott points. Great location for OP, who has already made a choice! I hope we helped.

On the recommendation by kelsmom, one in which I was interested, there is a change of name. Just FYI:

“As of November 4th, 2018, Courtyard Washington Embassy Row is becoming Hotel 1600.”

The Willard was $435 or so. I’m prefer not to spend that kind of cash. As long as the place is clean, well located and has the usual amenities.

The Holiday Inn-Capitol is about 2 short blocks behind the Air and Space Museum. We’ve stayed there a few times and it is my favorite hotel location in DC.

We stayed at that holiday inn over 30 years ago - I had totally forgotten about it.

We saw the 4th of July fireworks from Holiday Inn near capitol. It is well located.

We stay at the Phoenix Park mentioned by @HImom, a boutique hotel across from Union Station and the Capitol. The price is reasonable and becomes even more so if you park your car in the Union Station lot - their 24 hour rate is much lower than what all the hotels charge for parking (if driving into DC, make sure you check the parking rates when looking at your hotel options!)
