Italy…rebooked for October 2021. I’m not wearing a mask though, so may have to postpone again.
Dream place I’ve never been would be a toss up between London and Spain.

D2 and I did Copenhagen and Amsterdam in 2018. I was also disappointed with Copenhagen and loved Amsterdam. I liked Stockholm when we were there years ago. I especially liked trips out to little islands.
I do love your avatar! Noticed it when I started reading CC a few months ago.
Ireland.
I’ve been lots of exotic places and lived in Germany, went out to plenty of folk events. But something about Ireland. We even got to see dogs herding sheep.
@lookingforward we loved Ireland. Our driving trip along the west coast was on of our favorite vacations ever!
There’s something about Ireland that grabs onto your heart-----maybe it’s their history with all the suffering and oppression, with a happy ending! REALLY paying attention to Brexit, as the last thing both the republic and Ulster do NOT want to lose is the peace of the last 20 years.
Just before Covid I went to the South Island of New Zealand. It was so pretty. I was also supposed to go to Australia, but ended up canceling that part of the trip because of the wild fires. What a shame, because I don’t think I’ll ever go back as it’s just so far and you need so much time to make it worthwhile.
My father had always wanted to go to Bariloci Argentina, and thankfully he’s still living and healthy, but that far of a trip is beyond him now. I’d like to go there while he’s still alive and bring back my experiences to him. I’m really not looking forward to that long of a trip, though.
I want to go here when Covid is over.
H and I have always talked about a cross country driving trip. We live on the east coast so we’d fly to, say, Seattle or Portland, drive south on the PCH for a while, then head east, trying to avoid interstates at all costs. By the time we were tired of driving, we’d be in familiar territory.
Or, like @abasket , beach exploration.
I have a few dreams: 1) Egypt and pyramids. no idea if it will ever be safe to do so. 2)safari in Africa 3)cathedrals of Spain tour 4) Alaska cruise. I hope all of you can get where you want to go in your lives.
@JustaMom5465 my husband and I were talking about a similar trip. In our case, we would probably fly to Cleveland and visit my family. Then fly to Denver and rent a car there for the rest of the trip. We have friends and relatives all over the place…Some in Colorado. Then a bunch in the greater Seattle area. Then oregon. Then lots of friends and relatives all along that long CA drive all the way to San Diego. From there, we would go to Phoenix, Albuquerque, and Dallas. We would fly home from Dallas.
We figure it would be at least a six week trip. Fly and drive.
Something to look forward to…
When our kids were with us we took 3 longer road trips. The first was 3 weeks to the Canadian Maritimes. That was fun and let us realize how much we enjoyed longer trips.
The second we had every family member pick a spot in the US we wanted to see and played Connect the Dots - adding other places in along the way. The original spots were Mt Rushmore, the Grand Tetons, The Giant Redwoods, the Grand Canyon, and Four Corners. We added all sorts of things and took a month doing the road trip giving ourselves two nights at each destination, but one for everything else. I did a scrapbook from that one that the kids still show their good friends, two of whom became spouses. As part of the scrapbook I had everyone independently rank their favorite to least favorite places. None of the dots got a first place vote!
It was fun, but rushed, so the third long road trip we allowed 2 months - still going out west. We saw some of the same destinations, but allowed more time, then took different routes and added some new places.
We’ve also done a month in Hawaii seeing three islands, and three weeks in FL with the kids - all super enjoyable. The Hawaii one ties with the Western trips for family favorites.
After they all left home we tended to opt for a month down south (US or Caribbean) in winter - wanting to stretch that to two months this year, but that isn’t happening. I’ll admit to being bummed that our travel has been interrupted - road trips and fly to trips (Hawaii was a fly to one I suppose!).
I really want to take our two older sons to see Jordan - only youngest got to see that one with us, or rather, us with him since he was on a Study Abroad there and saw more than we were able to.
Someday. Africa might still get to be next. Time will tell.
My cousin and I had a visa snafu and got denied entry to Egypt at the border… it was already somewhat dodgy for tourists at that stage (there was actually an attack of some sort not long after that, but it would have been after we were back). It is definitely a regret that we didn’t manage it and like @bgbg4us would definitely like to go when it’s safe®. My regret about Jordan is that we only had arranged to see Petra. It was totally awesome, but i think we missed out on a lot of good stuff.
Love reading about the US road trips, making notes! There is just so, so, so much to see here …
There’s definitely so much more to Jordan than Petra. I also made the mistake of thinking there wasn’t that much there so just allowed 2 weeks. We could have easily spent a month there. There are so many historic sites and the people were fabulous.
We got to see Jerash (named a pony after the city), the Citadel, other spots around Amman since that’s where my lad was - his host family also took us to their “farm” near the Dead Sea for a BBQ too, Karak, Ajloun, Shobak, Wadi Rum (were able to watch Lawrence of Arabia later and see one of the same large rocks we climbed on - things don’t age much in the desert), the old King’s Highway dating back to OT Bible days, and an old church (name escapes me) with mosaics and paintings.
Going back I’d want to do their Eco Tour. We saw one hyena, but there seems to be so much more there. Than I’d add a whole OT site tour, actually swim/float in the Dead Sea vs just seeing it (though my boy tell me that’s not a highlight of his), explore more of the desert(s), and spend more time revisiting Petra, plus doing more around Petra than the main city. We’d also want to catch up with his host family in Amman.
I think I really could practically live on the road. We came across two youngsters who were doing that and (separately) two older ladies who were traveling the world together. I wish we could. Maybe at some point.
Thailand is a truly fantastic destination. Jungle, Bangkok, tropical beaches, interesting and overlooked WW2 history, amazing palaces, ruins of Ayutthaya, great food…I would go back tomorrow.
I’ve done a lot of traveling, but my bucket list includes a road trip in the Baltics. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. I’d love to drive around in the countryside, see lovely rural villages and cities like Tallinn and Riga. I’d take a side trip to Poland and a ferry over to Finland. That’s a big trip, so I’d need three weeks I think. Probably never going to happen because hubby isn’t as interested as me.
I’d also love to go to Peru, see the obvious places.
I’ve taken the ferry between Tallinn and Helsinki. And then another from Turku to Stockholm. I regret that I didn’t take another from Helsinki to St Petersburg, but that only runs a couple of days a week and I didn’t plan properly. If you take that ferry, you don’t have to get a visa to enter into Russia, but I think you are limited to 3 days there.
Tallin is lovely!
Tallinn was lovely indeed. @melvin123 I wasn’t aware the visa exemption worked for normal ferries too - it definitely works for cruise ships. I think it was 2 nights/3 days, but as I recall you needed an official guide to get the exemption too. That was a while back, not sure if it’s changed.
@Creekland - I’ve done the visit/swim (float) in the Dead Sea twice. I will say this: do not do it in midsummer if you can help it - that was actually just not fun at all for us - a visit in (relatively) milder climate was much more enjoyable.
@Lindagaf I have mostly Lithuanian ancestry with a little bit of Latvian thrown in, so also keen on a trip like that …one day. Lol. This thread is reminding me how much there is still to see…
Isn’t Jordan fabulous? It should be near the top of everyone’s list!
We were in Finland about 4 years ago, and at that time the regular ferry did qualify for the Russian visa exemption. Going on that ferry would be significantly cheaper than on the cruise ships, and I’ve heard that the accommodations are not luxurious but clean and perfectly ok.
