<p>Does Columbia provide money for it’s undergraduates to do research and travel? I am a prefrosh looking to become a research assistant for economics and maybe go to one or two major economics conferences.</p>
<p>This is usually done at the departmental level - and some departments (history for instance did) have money set aside for students to do something like this, and for research. but there isn’t necessarily always a set protocol to follow, just go to school, make friends with the departmental administrator, and ask around. there are some non-department specific grants, but i am not sure how many are given out or who gives them out because i just kind of set myself up with a prof and never really thought twice about anything else.</p>
<p>i do know of many students that did research for econ profs, so that option is certainly open to you.</p>
