Travel into NYC on Thanksgiving Day

From NJ to 1st Ave at 66th Street. I can get there and leave anytime I want. What do you think will be the best route? Through the Holland Tunnel and up the FDR. Over the GWB and down the FDR or through Staten Island and Brooklyn and over the 59th St bridge?

Have to avoid the Lincoln Tunnel (I think) because that would put me in line with dealing with the parade. I guess I could go Lincoln to the West Side Highway and north and cross the park north of 77th

I would go either GWB to Harlem River Dr to FDR or GWB down West Side Drive to 96th St and through Central Patk to east side.

That is what I was thinking. Someone mentioned using the Holland Tunnel but I always get messed up downtown getting to the FDR

On Thanksgiving Day, the area around the Holland Tunnel should be pretty deserted. You can make good progress coming out the tunnel on to Hudson Street and then up 6th Avenue all the way until, say 14th or 23rd Street, and then go cross town to the FDR or 1st Ave.

The fdr is easy, just take west side hwy all the way down and go around the battery.

I’d do public trans though.

Thanks

Public transportation is not great where I am. I would have to drive 25 miles to the train and the bus takes forever.

Don’t come through Staten Island. Gigantic mess. Definitely the GWB and east.

My mom is coming into NYC Thanksgiving too. I told her to take the Holland (via NJ Turnpike, not 1 or 9), take the first exit after the tunnel, go all the way to the Westside highway, turn left (going south), loop around Manhattan to FDR (make sure not to go through the Brooklyn tunnel). For OP take the 61 st exit (left exit).

When is the parade? Just don’t get messed up with that!
