Travel Snow...here we go!

Anyone worrying about the snow on Wednesday? Luckily, we are not traveling…but what about the rest of you. Busiest travel day of the year…and we have a winter weather advisory.

We’re not traveling, but I have to pick up S2 at the train station Wed. afternoon, provided no delays on Amtrak, and DH has to pick up S1 at the bus station Wed night, provided no travel delays on Greyhound.

I’m not looking forward to this.

^^^^^Not to mention, but it’s also my mother’s birthday, and I’ll be going to her nursing home Wed. morning to wish her a happy birthday.

I am a little panicked. We are all flying to Alabama from different places, to see the MIL. Three of us are coming from the NE. Newark, JFK, Harrisburg. Two with fairly tight connections. I feel sure that those of us coming from the NE are probably not going to make it there, though I am jumpseating on an airline that always manages to fly, so I might make it, but not the kids.

I am a little perplexed, and wondering if they are exaggerating, though. Hoping. On Wed out of JFK, they are predicting temperatures with a high of 40, and a low of 35, and snow. Snow at those temperatures? Sounds like rain to me, or they’re wrong on the temperatures. Hey, maybe the Chinese hacked our weather systems satellite again, and it’s going to be warm and dry!

Not traveling at all. We were supposed to go to CT for T’giving but left it up to S to decide since this is a working on his thesis break for him. He didn’t want to give up a whole day of his time. He’s been home since Saturday so at least no worries for me about him driving home in storm.

Just getting home from work on the day before Thanksgiving is a two-hour ordeal. Add in snow on the NJ Turnpike and it will be significantly worse. My D is also taking the bus up from Delaware. I am pretending there won’t be weather issues on Wednesday.

Does anyone remember last year on the east coast? We had snow on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and it caused issues for kids trying to get home from college. I know several of the Mega buses cancelled their routes from my daughters’ school, and parents were scrambling. This is too uncanny that they are calling for snow on the exact same date that we received it last year. If I recall correctly, last year’s snow did accumulate. I remember because I didn’t get a chance to rake the leaves before they were covered in snow.

My husband and I outsmarted the weather gods yesterday! We did the last of the season mowing and cleared the leaves. Then we moved the snow blower to the front of the garage and gassed it up and then started it to be sure it worked. Hah! Take that Mother Nature!!

Where is the snow expected to fall? A northeaster maybe??

Weirdly, I always enjoy these holiday CC weather threads. There is something heartwarming about picturing all ages and stages of CC’ers traveling through literally all types of weather to land in a warm home to make some family memories.

I have one D driving home tomorrow night - but I don’t think we have any snow in the forecast. Hoping that Turkey Day is the same - we drive about 45 mins out of town - not far, but I just hate having snow/ice covered roads be something I have to think about.

Will sit back and enjoy reading and hoping for safe travel for all the next few days. <3

“Where is the snow expected to fall? A northeaster maybe??”

Yep. Along immediate coast the prediction is only for rain - but just a bit inland snow. But it really depends on the track on how far out the low is from the coast.

Lucky you. My H has been in the bunker since the Buffalo storms and my yard is still covered. I still have lots of leaves on the two big trees in my front yard.

I can’t even ask my S to do it.

http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/east-on-alert-for-storm-to-dis/37800439

It really depends upon the track of the storm. If it stays further offshore, it might not be a problem. Let’s all hope!

Keeping fingers crossed.

So glad S arrived yesterday from DC and will be with us for 2 weeks–it’s dang HOT here–80s and 90s instead of 30s he was having in DC/VA.

Hope everyone stays safe and the storms stay offshore instead.

My good friend is driving two hours to Hershey (PA) Medical Center for surgery Tuesday and hopefully will be released on Wednesday; she really didn’t need one more thing to worry about. She is a retired Accuweather meteorologist and tracking the storm carefully.

So hoping the projections are off by a few miles or a few hours. My H and both sons are flying from LGA in NY to Buffalo (no snow jokes please!) on Wednesday evening. All have to work, so an earlier departure wasn’t in the cards. Last year, their flight was cancelled and they arrived Thursday morning making for a quick turnaround since they flew out on Friday. This year all are staying until Saturday, so Thursday wouldn’t be horrible, but I’d love to have them with us for the entire time. I’m driving up on Tuesday, so I know I will be there, and my D is flying from Chicago…for once the Midwest isn’t the problem too…so far!

We are not traveling, but may have extra company on Thanksgiving if the snow makes roads between Boston and PA horrible. One of the younger engineers is from PA and is hoping to drive home for the holidays.

<a href=“Thanksgiving Eve storm to trip up travelers in East”>http://www.usatoday.com/story/weather/2014/11/24/thanksgiving-eve-snowstorm-east-coast/19485655/

Glad we won’t be travelling.

So, runnersmom, any particular reason you’re going to celebrate in Buffalo? Anxious to see all that snow?

It’s 71 at my house right now in upstate NY (but far from Buffalo!) It depressing thinking about the snow and cold that’s on it’s way.

emilybee, I agree. We got through Buffalo before that storm hit last week and just watching the pictures on the news has been unbelievable. The weather here in Hilton Head has been great, and warm. Here for a bit yet then back to winter reality until after the holidays.

alwaysamom, at least you are on the other side of lake.

I played tennis today (indoors) and we were joking we should of played outside. I did take my little dog out for a nice long walk after I got home.

Warm and cloudy here today on the MA/NH border. Plan to spend Thanksgiving on the RI coast. (Last time before shutting the house up for the winter.). Should be mostly rain there but it is the getting there that might be a problem. If we can’t get there Wed afternoon, we may just drive early down Thurs morning.
