Travel Snow...here we go!

Just checked the weather forecast for here, in L.A. – supposed to be 88 on Thursday.

^^im so glad I wound up in LA instead of Newark! Just cancelled my kids flight out of Harrisbburg. Too much hassle and I don’t think he’d make his connection even if it got out.

They upped our totals too…

But I don’t think the airport will have issues. It’s warmer there, started snowing later, and Bradley usually is one of the last to close (flights get diverted here often). But I do think there will be delays…

^ Same with the Albany airport.

It just started snowing.

My concern is picking up the rental car late this afternoon. No snow yet, here on the coast.

Can you pick the car up…soon!!

Ackk, was trying to make the total rental hours work, time it to mesh with with when we’ll return. Wait and see. I’m a straight shot to the downtown office, couple of miles. Am watching the (many, varied) weather reports. But for today, we’re in the green area on Weather.com. Rain.

LF, have a wonderful time! Hope you don’t encounter any travel troubles.

Today they updated the status of my daughters late flight as late due to “Operational difficulties”. I haven’t seen that one before. That flight was operated by ExpressJet. I would love to think those pilots (and ground crew) are very seasoned also.

Snow started in central Ct around 10:30am, started sticking to pavement an hour later. DH will get out of work early to pick up S2 at the train station, so I don’t have to hassle with driving.

Is any airport closing yet?

I don’t think there will be any airports closing because of this storm. Flight delays and cancellations likely - but this is not a blizzard.

I’m going out to do some last minute errands. It’s snowing pretty heavily but not sticking at all to pavement yet.

Agreed. I can’t see this closing airports. But delays…yes. And some flight cancellations possible.

Got my pie for tomorrow and some ice cream to serve with it. Snow is sticking to payment on my street now but the main streets are just wet. Too much traffic for it to stick yet. I went out with just a sweater on. It’s not even below freezing yet.

If it wasn’t the day before thanksgiving it wouldn’t be getting anywhere near the media attention it is.

Oh, you know how everyone rushes the markets when weather predictions are bad. Last evening, my local grocery had two turkeys left. Two. I got the last breast (which is what I had hoped for.) No more coming. It’s a medium sized store, but it and a small Whole foods are the mainstays in my part of town. Didn’t check the latter.

I agree that airports won’t close, but there will be flight cancellations.

Here in the northwest hills (CT residents will understand that!), we have five inches on the ground, and grassy surfaces. Driveway has about two inches of densely packed snow. DD moved her car to the top of our hill driveway, but also drove to the end of our street. She says that the roads are OK…so far. She works as an EMT at 6 p.m. But she is going to leave here within the hour…the snow is supposed to continue and accumulate more.

I don’t think my mongo snowblower is going to like this dense wet heavy snow…at all. And really its a big one.

D1 off work early. But all we have is heavy wet sleet.

Left DC at 7:15 this a, got to Bayonne at 12:30, including two pit stops and brunch. That’s better time than we make in good weather on a regular weekend. TG Wednesday is usually 7-9 hours. Was all rain til we got to south Jersey (10:30), then a mix, and all snow/sleet by the time we got to exit 12 on the NJ TP. S2 made his bus. So far, so good. He and S1 are supposed to meet at the PATH station in NY and come over to the NJ side.

We have about six inches of very wet heavy snow, and it’s still snowing. DD left early and went to a Starbucks to study near where she works…about 25 miles away. She will come home in the morning and the roads should be all cleaned up by then. Snow is supposed to stop by midnight.
