Travel subtopic?

The cafe is such a great place to get travel advice, I wonder if the cafe should have a travel subtopic. Would be great if the threads could be collated there. So many experienced travellers here. I learn about places I’ve never considered before.

For example, @Oldfort’s link makes me want to go to the Dominican Republic.

^^^^^ I’d vote for that! Tripadvisor and local Discover Destination-So-and-So websites are great resources, but I’ve continually received the best ideas and advice from CCers!

Another vote for this. I frequent tripadvisor, but it can be a snakepit.

Great idea.

Would be easier to find those travel posts

@CCadmin_Sorin

Can we have a subforum for travel…maybe right under that defunct one for politics?

I agree…this is a topic that comes up again and again and again…

I got so much good advice before our Paris trip this summer from this site! I think a sub-forum is a great idea!

Love this idea!

Also, love this idea !!!

I love this idea too!

Another vote for a travel sub forum.

I also vote for travel sub forum. So many travelers here—those who have traveled and those who want to. It will make it much easier to refer back to those threads of interest.

I would like to see it, too.

I hope we will see it after the maintenance shutdown.

Best to tag @CCadmin_Sorin and perhaps move this post to community and forum issues. Having said that, isn’t Trip Advisor a thing?

^Not nearly the same thing, though. Here there is more of a discussion, we sort of know each other, we can ask specific questions and are more likely to get answers that make sense for our needs. TripAdvisor is a crapshoot, in comparison.

What garland said. TripAdvisor is good for checking out ratings and rants related to a particular property or destination. Here, one can ask a general question like “please recommend a place to ski in late April”…

Trip advisor forums can be frustrating. Many times when a question is posed, the replies consist of reprimands to the OP for not checking frequently asked questions. Yet the FAQs are often out of date and/or difficult to navigate. The posters frequently resort to snarky answers as well. I used to spend hours wading through the forums looking for info until I learned to just come here and do a search. This group is much more knowledgeable and succinct.

For example, I want to know how to dress to go to Las Vegas for a weekend, and I just don’t have the energy to wade through all the forums. And I won’t post the question and get yelled at. I haven’t gotten around to searching CC yet, but if it’s not already mentioned, I’ll start a thread and ask. I know even if you think I’m a country bumpkin for not knowing how dressy/casual I need to be, nobody will belittle me for asking.
