Travel -- The places you want to visit AGAIN & AGAIN!

Gourmetmom, Sleeping Bear Dunes is one of my favorite places. I adore the west coast of Michigan, and I do visit it again & again. There is a beach near SBD where the Platte River meets Lake Michigan, and my family thinks it is the most beautiful beach on earth.

Forgot to add cruising down/up the Pacific Coast Highway between Cambria and Monterey. Also, the drive between Paso Robles and Cambria on highway 46 is stunning in springtime.

We went to St. Johns several times for a family reunion/Thanksgiving celebration. It was a lot of fun and while it’s primarily snorkeling heaven, we always did some hiking and browsing art galleries and of course lots of eating.

I’ve collected a few kitchen things in my time. My favorites a copper/ceramic double boiler and a cheery round oil tablecloth from a trip to Normandy. We have a nice collection of stuff from living in Germany - not just the silly decorative steins from Germany, but also the kind the beer really comes in with the name of the brewery on the side, and those wine glasses that have the 2.0l mark on the side so everyone gets exactly the same sized serving. I also love my collection of porcelain cups from Japan - inherited from my parents. We were shocked at how pricey they were when we went to Japan. Didn’t end up buying any.

@kelsmom - we loved Sleeping Bear Dunes. What is the name of the beach that is your family’s favorite?

@BunsenBurner , my husband and I love Copenhagen ! It is our favorite city to visit. Things have hanged somewhat in the last 20 years , but overall it is a wonderful city

@dadoftwingirls , Disney is fun , but not what I would consider relaxing. I am sort of glad that our youngest isn’t very interested in going there anymore.

Since I work outside , steps away from the beach, I have zero interest in going to any place that is tropical. To me, it just isn’t a vacation I can relate to after twenty years of trying to stay out of the sun. I haven’t been to our local beaches in years . I suppose that people who work in NYC wouldn’t particularly want to vacation there for the same reason.
I am at the point in my life where I want to see places that I find interesting for culture , history and cuisine rather than sitting in a beach chair or visiting theme parks. I have a lot of places I want to see, and also that I know I never want to visit.
Everyone is different, thank goodness since I work in the tourism industry and happy to have people who love the vacations that I detest

That’s it!! BB is goin’ to Copenhagen. The flight was $950 RT to fly there vs. $1500-1900 elsewhere, including Stockholm.

Excellent! Especially all the way from the Pacific Northwest. When are you going? H and I will be in Stockholm the last week of August (family visit mostly).

Beginning of August and sadly, for only a few days. But Im thrilled!!! I have been to Stockholm several times, but only ran through the airport in Copenhagen. Now, driving in Europe… I’m not enthused about that!!!

Spain.

Our family goes on sailing vacations and I could go back to the British Virgin Islands every year if I could find the time

So many wonderful places to add to my list.
We don’t usually go back to the same place twice. I loved visiting my D when she lived in San Francisco. I loved every trip. I think we saw it in a different light as a guest of a resident versus a tourist. I miss it.
Like Coralbrook we take sailing vacations. We have sailed in the BVI three times which is unusual for us. I think even though it is fairly easy sailing it is a place I don’t grow tired of. I imagine in the far future we will sail there as a trip with grandchildren.
We are headed to Tonga for our next sailing trip. Adding on New Zealand which we haven’t been to.
I want to go back to Amsterdam. H and I went went we were 20. Italy was the same trip.

I like Seattle, but absolutely adore Vancouver. Years ago I enjoyed the art work and the anthropology museum. The city is sparkling clean and N. Vancouver is at the base of spectacular mountains. Chinatown was like a return to Hong Kong, cuisine included.
On a more recent visit when D was doing Americorps in WA, the well kept cleanliness of the city impressed me as well as that juxtaposition of mountain and water. The food was out of this world good. We drove and walked Stanley Park, stayed on English Bay, and really enjoyed wandering Granville Market.

Vancouver has great seafood, great shopping. My kids love shopping there. Chinatown has lots of fresh tropical fruits. The live frogs. All very entertaining. However I never found a good dim sum there. Hotel was not too expensive either.
British Columbia is like England in the old days. They are more conservative than the English. The tea house with scrumptious desserts that go with it. Plus you can get hotel next to the water, not too expensively. Lots of outdoor activities if you have time.

We’re going back to Vancouver (we were last there 20+ years ago). Looking forward to all the food and sights with my family before we get on the cruise.
