travel/volunteer abroad

for a major in international relations, would an application that included experience in foreign travel as well as volunteer work abroad possibly go farther than an application with the same academic stats. of a person who has no foreign experience? …I’m planning to major in IR and have already traveled to Costa Rica and Ecuador and will be doing volunteer work in Russia this November…so just wondering how much that will help my application!

No one can give you a specific number, or say how much it will help exactly, but if you think it’s something that will set you apart from other IR applications, then it’s probably a good thing.

make sure the schools you’re applying to actually consider your major in admissions. Many do not, or just care what college you’re applying to at the U.
