Anyone travel outside of Europe?

I am very envious! I want weather like that!

Nuquii - I have seen a couple of 'stans.
Still prefer Europe, but the good old USA is even better, although Canada is pretty neat, too.

Summers, I live near Acadia and never tire of it, although I probably take it for granted.
Nice video, Interestedad!

Dordogne/perigord is lovely. Paris, too.
Northern New Mexico, but maybe not in summer.

South Africa is on my wish list. S2 spent a semester there and is smitten with SA.
Can’t wait to retire.

“Anyone travel outside of Europe?”

Cancun, Satillo, Nigeria, Jamaica, Nevis, Turks and Caicos, Vancouver, Toronto, Maui…

Many were family or work related. Not sure if that counts.

Any trip counts!

What are some of the reasons that you guys prefer Europe?

I’ve been wanting to go to Canada so bad lately. I was looking into exchange program, but I’m afraid I’ll freeze to death. (Sort of not serious.)

Outside Europe? Most of East Asia, Nepal, Thailand, Burma, Philippines. Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala and Martinique, Australia. As mathmom states, many places, and I’d say most, have certain amazing and special attributes, and the joy of travel is finding what that certain location has to offer.

I joined DH for a business trip to Kyoto in January. Loved it! There are 17 Unesco world heritage sites in the city, some walkable from hotel. Also other in the vicinity.
http://www.kyoto.travel/plan_your_visit/worldheritage/

Natural beauty: Canadian Rockies are breathtaking (make sure to visit Banff and Vancouver too while you are at it) and Costa Rica

Faves for R&R (total): St Johns (USVI) and Petit St. Vincent

Best cities: London, Barcelona, Rome (for the major historical sites)

Most interesting country: Turkey (but haven’t visited much outside of Europe - - just a few)

What I most want to do, but have yet to do: Machu Piccu, Galapagos Islands, a safari

Most overrated: Greece

Honorable mention: Bruges, the most adorable town ever

I don’t prefer Europe; just Barcelona. Perfect blend of amazing food, a bit of a “wild side” with a bit of predictability (no “coups”!), euros, comfort ( electricity and water), and ease of access ( direct flights), mass transit, and a language I understand.

So many great places, so little time! My newest favorite is Sydney, Australia. What can beat a beautiful, vibrant city where you take a ferry to the beach? The long flight to New Zealand/Australia is worth it.

Some of my other favorites: Paris, Bermuda, Hawaii and Yosemite.

I’m glad to hear how much everyone likes Barcelona. Next week, DH will be picking up DD in Cadiz, Spain, and then they will drive up the coast to Barcelona, where they will spend a couple of days before flying home. I’m so excited for them!

Outside Europe?
Well I spent years in East Africa and it was wonderful
Two weeks in Japan - fabulous trip
One week in Jordan last year - ditto
St. Johns (Virgin Islands) great place for just relaxing

On my bucket list, China, India and Australia/New Zealand

I’ve been to New Zealand but would like to revisit in. Turkey is on my husband’s bucket list. He was there in his younger years and has developed a taste for grilled mackerel off the boat.

We like to camp in Oregon
Pure relaxation in Hawaii

I enjoy Vancouver BC, but my job has made it difficult to go there very often or on spur-of-the moment trips.

My favorite European destination is Paris and environs. Paris always feels like home, and I really don’t know why. That said, this fall’s European trip will be the first one in the past 10 years that we won’t go to Paris, save for a brief train connection. We were briefly in Germany 25 years ago and my husband has wanted to go back ever since. So, it will be Bavaria, the Rhine/Mosel, and Alsace. Small towns, beautiful scenery, wine and beer. :)

Niquii, my friend’s husband took her to Pategonia for her birthday and the pictures were amaing. So remote and so beautfiul.

Pategonia. Wow.

Man, seeing all these places that you guys have visited makes me so antsy to travel!

My plan is to check off the majority of my Central and South American countries while I’m in college, and then afterwards I’ll venture over to Europe. It’s just so expensive to go over there. Money goes so much farther down south than east. My upcoming trip to South America next year is only going to cost about $2,000 to $2500, while a trip to Germany would be $6000 for the same amount of time. I’ll go when I have an income!

That is quite a drive and the roads will be crowded as it is in the middle of the tourist season.

I would love to be able to afford to travel more abroad, but we have traveled a lot in the US, especially in the West. My favorite road trip a few years ago (starting from Southern CA) was to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, by way of Lake Tahoe, Lassen National Park, Lava Beds National Monument and Crater Lake. And then back home through southern Utah. Absolutely spectacular! And really, there’s so much to see just in California–Yosemite, Death Valley, Joshua Tree, Sequoia, the Redwoods, Big Sur–we love it all and feel lucky to live here, so close to so much natural beauty. Somewhat farther away, but also spectacular, Alaska and Hawaii are both places we loved and I can’t wait to go back to.

Fiji! Waters that are clear and warm, absolutely teeming with life. People that are happy and kind. Beautiful islands, beaches, and climate. It’s an amazing destination. I’d like to scuba in Micronesia, and visit the nature island of Dominica in the Caribbean. Not much interest in Europe at all. Much more interested in NZ, Australia, Asia, and the South Pacific.
