So im kind of thinking about college already cuz its important and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with travel writing as their major or just writing i guess. thanks

I did not realize that one could major in travel writing. Isn’t that an awfully narrow field for a college degree?

I think a Journalism major is what you are looking for.

I’m a creative writing major and I’ve gotten the change to take a class that covered travel writing, and hopefully I will be doing some travel writing/an internship while I’m abroad. I absolutely love my major, and travel writing has been one of my favorite genres in nonfiction. Travel Writing is much to narrow a category to major in, but it’s possible to do with a journalism major or a creative writing major that would allow you to get experience in that field. Probably smart to learn some photography, too.

You most likely want to major in English or Journalism, depending on the school. At some schools Creative Writing is not part of the English Department; at other schools it is, but generally a certain number of creative writing courses count toward an English major. Get fluent in a second language, at least, and take advantage of study-abroad opportunities.

You could combine these classes with classes in other relevant departments, such as anthropology, international relations, photography, hotel management if that’s offered where you go to school.

The most important thing is to get a LOT of writing experience in college; you can get it in class but you also might want, e.g, to get involved with the campus newspaper or literary magazine.

okay thanks for all the information!
