Traveling Cross Country

If you had 2 months to travel cross country by car, where would you go?

Arizona, Utah, California, Oregon and Washington State. I could spend a long time in Arizona alone.

Depends on which 2 months.

Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington. We did that a long time ago.

If summer, all the mountain national parks: Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Glacier, Olympia, Yosemite and Sequoia.

If summer, and since most of our vacations have been in the above mentioned spots, I’d head up @MaineLonghorn’s way and meander down that coast until I ran out of time. Acadia national park is near the top of my bucket list.

Agree that Acadia is worth a trip! We’ve been going up there for 30 years and still haven’t run out of things to do.

We’re going for September and October. We’re not interested in the northeast as we live there.

I did a 7-day thing from Louisiana to Oregon. Moab, UT was great

We did not drive but with 2 months you could … We traveled from the Northeast to Western Canada and the PNW of the US. Amazing! Whistler, Vancouver, Victoria, Seattle, Olympic National Park, Portland, Mt. Rainier …

I’d hit many of the national parks already mentioned, plus Bryce and Zion. I would also drive along the west coast, and in Oregon I’d hit Cannon Beach, the Columbia River Gorge area (lots of waterfalls), and the Willamette Valley for great wines.

September and October? I’d spend September in the Rockies (MT, WY) and Cascades and October in the high desert (UT and AZ).

Lake Tahoe is the most beautiful spot I have visited. Yes, the Grand Canyon’s size is spectacular, and should be seen. But the scenic beauty of Lake Tahoe will captivate your heart and soul.

Right now the plan is start in the northern states as it is our understanding a lot of the parks close in October, go down the Pacific coast and head back through the south and up the eastern seaboard. The problem is trying to also get in areas that are in the middle of the country.

I did that back in the Stone Age…but it was six weeks. Trip departed from Ohio. Took the northern route out…went to Badlands, Mt Rushmore, Corn Palace, Wall Drug, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, then Crater Lake.

Headed into CA…went to Redlands, Sequoia, Yosemite, and ended in Long Beach. Went to Disneyland.

Drove back the southern route…through Death Valley, up to the Grand Canyon. I think we might have driven through the painted desert too. Then drove through Texas to Oklahoma…mission there was for good steak.

SO MUCH FUN!

For 2 months, what about traveling by RV?

Did any of you plan which hotels you were staying at or did you wing it? Since we plan on driving and staying where we want for as long as we want, it is difficult to plan where we’ll be at any time. I expect that things may not be so crowded as the trip is in the fall.

The national parks out west on our way to Alaska. Then back, I’d go to MN, Wisconsin and MI, they seem so lovely. If there is any time left over we’d go over and up through NY and New England before returning to Va.

@DocT: Have you retired?

Yes and so did my wife. Officially she’s retiring August 12 but school is out so for all practical purposes, she’s retired.
