Tree fell on tour at Vanderbilt

For those who would take it as a "sign " – D1 agonized over her college choice, but eventually realized that she knew what she wanted to do. The decision was distracting her from getting work done, so she decided to sign on and hit the "accept " button. Just as she went to click the button, the electricity in the house went off (perfectly clear day, no work going on nearby) and her selection did not go through. We laughed and drove to Barnes & Noble where she signed up for college using their wifi (no smartphones for us at the time!). I did wonder if it was a “sign,” but she’s a senior and has yet to regret her decision.

If this happened at Alabama, the question would be “If no football players heard it fall, did it really make a sound?”

If it happened at Brown, the concern would be that the minority kids were hurt more than the white kids.

If it happened at Oberlin, it would prompt an immediate climate change rally, for certainly the tree fell due to the melting polar ice.

If it happened at Michigan it only fell because Jim Harbaugh told it to.

If it happend at USC, it would be because the tree had been out drinking with Steve Sarkesian the night before.

I think I would have done the same thing-I may be somewhat irrational when it comes to “signs”, but I don’t let them completely dictate my behavior.

If the tree had fallen on us, but not hurt us, when we were there I would have been like, um, we’ll take that experience in the “con” column. Not all “cons” are tangible or rational

However, if we’d been hurt by the tree, I have to say I probably would have crossed it off the list.

If your kid had gotten electrocuted (but survived) by the power going out, you might not have been so sanguine?
