Trinity in TX vs U of The Pacific in CA?

I’m looking for some input for me neighbor. How he arrived at his college list is too long a story to detail here but the basic facts are this: very high stats, great kid - NMF - interested in engineering - rejected WASHU and CM as of now. Accepted state schools (no interest in attending) Trinity in Texas and University of The Pacific in Stockton CA with merit and Reed. Waiting on Emory, Cornell and Tufts.

So, I asked a couple basic questions that I learned just by chance on CC about direct admit and type of program and parents didn’t know (mom asked me and opened the discussion, I didn’t insert myself where not invited). They had left it up to a “professional”. In looking myself I see that Reed is a 3/2, Trinity is an ABET accredited general engineering degree and Pacific is ABET accredited with specialties and a co-op program.

Does anyone have better information about the strengths of these programs or some questions to plant in the parent’s minds. I’m trying to be a bit more active and informed in the choice process w/o questioning how they got to where they are now. Kid hasn’t visited either school yet and good use some tips on how to go about vetting these known options.
