Just booked to go top Tanzania. I am excited. Never been to Africa. I’d appreciate any tip on travel, especially what top wear. Do I have to wear kakis like in movies? ![]()
If you are going on wildlife viewing safaris, that may be the recommended color scheme for clothing.
I’ve been to two trips to Africa - it’s an amazing place. Keep in mind if you’re doing a safari the weight limits are extremely important as you’re flying in on small planes. Pack LIGHT! All the safari’s we visited included laundry service and everything is casual, so you really don’t need much. Most people to tend to wear khaki and other neutral colors. Avoid blue and black to avoid the tse tse flies. Have a great time!
Agreed. When we went to Kenya years ago they tour company suggested wearing neutral clothing. We tried to stick to khakis, hunter green type colors. It did make picking out an outfit in the morning much easier.
And to expand on the comment by @Darcy123 we had to pack in a large duffel bag provided by the tour company (made it easier to load bags into jeeps and small planes).
I second the advice not to overpack as there will be laundry service no doubt.
The safari-marketed type clothing with zipper pants are unnecessary in my experience (I’ve been on safaris 3x). Normal athleisure is fine or even casual outfits - you will be sitting in a jeep most of the time so you don’t need to be in full Indiana Jones gear ![]()
This sounds so exciting! Africa is a vast continent with so many distinct countries, regions and cultures. I am glad you specified that you are going to Tanzania. Will this trip be to the beautiful island of Zanzibar or are you visiting bustling Arusha or exploring the amazing wildlife in the Ngorongoro Conservation area? Your wardrobe options would vary pretty widely between those destinations!
