Trip to Florida

So, I have finally decided on a vacation, and I am going to Florida. I am going to be driving down (leaving from NYC at around 6:00 pm on a Friday and arriving to Orland on Sunday).

My first question is how feasible is it for one person to drive that distance in two and a half days (flying is really not an option, and I am already taking the train back).

Also, I would like to see things along the way not just do the drive. I understand that I won’t have much time, but are there any places I should not miss? Are there any cities I should stop in for the two nights (I know it would be more expensive, but if I can explore a little, it would be worth it)? Any scenic routes? I have never been to Georgia or South and North Carolina!

Are you a member of AAA? If not, I would suggest joining before you make this trip. First, they can print out a trip tic (or whatever’s its called) and tell you all about the scenic places along your route. Also, if you get a flat tire, or have any other car trouble, it is a God-send.

Mapquest says it’s an eighteen hour drive, so two and a half days is plenty … even if there’s just one driver.

As for sight seeing, you need to decide what you’d prefer to see. Mountain vistas? Colonial architecture? Quiet beaches? I think you’d enjoy Charleston SC … but then I think EVERYONE should enjoy Charleston. It’s considerably out of the way though.

Good luck, and enjoy the trip!
