Trojan Transfer Plan (TTP) including Study Abroad Info

Your daughter still had to apply to transfer correct? You can call it program or what you want - anyone can apply to transfer. I am sure your daughter had the opportunity to meet one on one but USC has been transitioning out of that. It was never a guarantee for transfer. You can take classes that are suggested and still might not get in although usc takes many through transfer.

If my D24 applied for SCA for Animation, but had Dornslife History as her 2nd option, will she be considered for TTP for SCA Animation? Or her alternate? We committed to LMU last night for animation. But, we would like to keep USC as an option in the future. (And, even though there are posts saying legacies don’t matter
we hope that it might be a factor.)

Still matters and there are still one on ones, some have different info than others or haven’t been through it so don’t understand it. Did her email have the sentence “this decision was especially difficult for us given your ties to the USC community.”? It would be for her first choice, then she would apply to same one when doing app and in any communication with her AO.

Thank you so much for answering  yes, it had that sentence. I have two degrees from SC as do both of her grandparents. So, we definitely have “ties.” Part of me feels like she should have applied to Dornslife and transferred in since Animation only has 20 students each year. That being said we are excited about LMU Film School which is a great option.

It seems there are 3 flavors to the rejection emails this year? The first one quoted here and another with a link a brief form to complete:

“If you decide that you still wish to explore a path to USC, consider applying for admission as a transfer student. Students may apply to transfer to USC after at least one year of strong academic work elsewhere. If you are interested, simply complete this [brief form] and I will e-mail you more information about (1) our expectations of transfer applicants, and (2) details about Trojan Transfer Information Sessions later this summer that will help you plan your course of study. Although our transfer process is highly competitive and there are no guarantees of admission, you could transfer to USC as soon as your sophomore year.”

And a third with another sentence that is identical to the 2nd above with the added, “This decision was especially difficult for us given your ties to the USC community”.

So is the only actual TTP the one mentioning ties? Or did something change this year? Or does nobody really know?

The first one is the generic everyone can transfer. The ties or very difficult statement will get the app flagged and should net you a more personal conversation (they are still occurring)with advisor to help you plan. It’s way stronger applying that way. There are plenty that are coming in this way this year. No reason they would want to alienate the alumni that fund the school and not fill holes the following year with higher quality students they just didn’t have room for.

Makes total sense. My DC got the 2nd more specific version with the link but without the USC ties, so I was just trying to determine what that means in the context of the TTP or if it’s nothing.

If you got the “ties to the USC community version”, it contained a link where you expressed interest in TTI. In that link you select the major you are interested in. It wasn’t limited to what you applied to in your application, but appeared to be the complete list of majors.

@CADREAMIN If you are classified as “Visiting USC” your first year at some of the Study Abroad programs (Rome, Paris, London, etc – e.g. schools with articulation agreements with USC), is that the same as what was TTP? I don’t know if they still do that, but my older son had a friend get that designation a year ago or so. Thanks very much.

Yeah, that is my confusion. DC got the email with the link to the form, but just sans the “USC ties” sentence, everything else was the same (we have no ties). DC completed the form to express interest and checked the desired major (as you noted, a complete list of majors).

My son received a very lengthy TTI email yesterday providing more background. It did feel like a general email that anyone would receive, and the information sessions they previewed do not sound 1:1 but rather webinars. I was surprised to see they discourage attending another 4-year institution and prefer either community college or study abroad.

Yeah my kid forwarded me the email. I agree that “community college or study abroad instead of another 4-year college” is so risky and I really wonder who in their right minds would do such a thing without any guarantee into USC.

Did you show intent on the link provided in decision letter to get this email ?

Would it be possible for you to screen shot the letter ? I want to compare it with mine to see if it’s more “TTP friendly” ?

Yes he filled out the brief form showing interest.

Seems very generic to me. After this there is another page with expectations (5 items), also pretty generic.
Transferring to USC is best approached with a careful plan. To assist you, we invite you to attend a Trojan Transfer Information Session in June. Led by a USC admission officer, this online meeting will provide you comprehensive information on how to select your courses and prepare a competitive transfer application. With a sound plan and hard work, you could transfer to USC as soon as your sophomore year, just like hundreds of students do every fall.

We will e-mail you in early May once reservations for the Trojan Transfer Info Sessions are open. In the meantime, please review the details below to become familiar with our expectations, and our recommendations on institutions, including options in Europe and the UK, you might choose to attend next year.

Keep in mind that the transfer selection process is competitive, and admission is not guaranteed. Students following the advice we provide in these sessions often become successful transfer candidates. I am glad you are considering this path, but it is prudent to consider alternate plans because our expectations are high and not all participants will be admitted.

I applaud your courage in considering a transfer path to USC. Whatever you decide, we all wish you well as you continue your education.

Thank you.
Is this what he got after filling the interest form ?

Would it be possible for you to share the decision letter where he was offered to apply for TTP?

This is what we received as well. I think our concern is that she is accepted to LMU SFTV for Animation. TTP for USC SCA would be a gamble if we went international or CC and didn’t go the LMU route. Very tough decisions to make.

Thank you! I’m trying to understand how USC defines “ties”. Is your kid a legacy ?
