He found out this evening that he did get his first choice (Marshall). He needs to call ITS to get his NetID activated. He’s out of the country, so hopefully he can do it soon!
Congrats! Marshall was really hard to get in this year!! Time to celebrate!!
Wondering if any advice out there: TTP study abroad, took all the important classes in Fall, got 3.9+ applied to Dornsife, submitted official transcript mid May and got SGR on May 24, then uploaded unofficial grades on May 25 (hadn’t known to do that from the start - heads up to future applicants). Emailed admissions 10 days ago and were told admissions has everything. It seems like everyone else has already heard back. Don’t want to annoy admissions office, but it’s hard to wait this long… plus other colleges have deposits due end of this week. Heart completely set on USC…
I strongly advise you to call admission or your child’s AO and ask them the status of the app. I was hesitant to call for my child at first but I got over it and called a lot. They actually like it when parents call to engage with them.
Was the email to your AO or general admissions? My son only emails his specifically when he has questions. This week he emailed general admissions since he hadn’t heard back from his AO. I know not everyone has heard back. As for the other schools, you should ask for an extension and get it in writing. I hope you hear back soon!
Daughter was accepted to Dornsife, Environmental Studies today.
I really appreciate all of the information that was provided through this forum. As this will probably be one of the final times I visit the site, I wanted to provide some background on how my daughter’s process went for future applicants.
- HS class of 2023, legacy (mom, USC MBA/dad, USC BA and MBA)
- Good grades, but not exceptional ~3.7, 4.2W. ASB, some community service, part-time job.
- No SAT or AP submissions (thought probably too low) with application
- Accepted to Washington, Oregon, Ohio St, Syracuse
- Early application, deferred to later round, rejected. Rejection disappointing, but not surprising.
- Rejection letter mentions “…difficult decision because of ties to Trojan family…”
- 1:1 webinar with a counselor about TTP in June; very fast-paced and impersonal, running through facts of how to transfer (not the counselor my daughter would eventually keep communication with)
- Attended JC in Orange County, CA (4 classes, 14 units 1st semester, 5 classes, 17 units 2nd semester) Writing requirement required a prerequisite class 1st semester, so no way to get the writing requirement out of the way. Straight A’s both semesters.
- Connected with an admissions counselor through the Find my Counselor tool by school assignment. Initial introduction from questions about total units and other random questions. Counselor responsive and happy to assist.
- Attended an on-campus Transfer orientation for prospective students’ day in January. Wanted information, but also thought may show ‘demonstrated interest.’
- Received spring grade request on Friday, May 24 (one week before USC’s announced date of May 31). However daughter’s JC does not end until June 9. She sent an FYI email to counselor about SGR and school-end timing. Counselor says to just upload when available.
- SGR wasn’t a surprise because knew of a prior student from same HS, JC that had straight A’s the 1st semester and also got SGR. Eventually admitted TTP.
- Unofficial JC final grades become available on June 13, ~4:00. Daughter uploads immediately and sends another FYI email to the counselor about upload and appends a copy of the same transcript to the email for her records.
- Daughter notified by email today, June 14 ~5:40 pacific that status change to portal. Accepted! My point being, it only took 24 hours from SGR upload to an acceptance letter in her case.
I think in my daughter’s case, the updating with the counselor a few times throughout the process proved to be beneficial. And I can’t help but think the counselor ended up facilitating the quick close in some way.
Best of luck to those still awaiting a decision!
Thanks very much for posting your daughter’s experience, congratulations to her! I’m not seeing much rhyme or reason to the process for TTP applicants this year. Our child uploaded his unofficial transcript on 06/03/24 (4.0 with 31 units at a community college, all classes that satisfy USC GE requirements plus the writing course) and hasn’t heard back. A friend who is also TTP at a four-year university uploaded her unofficial transcript on 05/24/24 and is still waiting to hear. She has emailed her counselor, we have not as we don’t wish to bother them. Perhaps that’s the wrong approach.
Emailing your advisor to be sure they are not needing any additional info from you and that you remain hopeful to be a Trojan (!) never hurts. Not a bother, shows interest and commitment.
Thanks for your advice, which I shared with our son. He will send an email today. Best of luck to everyone still waiting to hear.
My son is also TTP, went to a 4 year university freshman year, and was accepted May 24th. However he had his official transcripts sent as soon as they were available, even before requested. So perhaps sending official transcripts makes a difference, not sure. However I do concur with all of the above comments that TTP still exists. My son did not have off the charts grades his freshman year and he went to a university, not a CC, but was admitted to USC first wave. There are many paths to admission!
Hi Westwoodusc, looks like you secured housing for your transfer student. Just wondering if you found a good site for finding roommates? My son was on an instagram page that seems to no longer exist.
Hi all,
Thanks for your posts… Agreed that it is hard to figure out the timing of TTP admission responses… Our TTPer did the study abroad, 3.9+, uploaded official on may 16, then got SGR on May 24 and uploaded unofficial May 25. Still have not heard (meanwhile I think every one of her program classmates has heard including those who like us didn’t know to upload the unofficial until they got SGR request). Emailed and called AO to confirm they had everything, they said yes and that we’d hear soon. But still nothing came last Friday. We don’t want to annoy AO but we keep worrying that her file isn’t complete or not on the TTP “stack” or something else. I wonder if it will be all the way to Friday again before another admissions drop? Not sure whether to email AO again.
Sending good luck to all.
If I were you, I would call the AO directly myself. I was hesitant to call at first but throughout the whole transfer process, I ended up calling them a lot. I was embarrassed at first but after speaking to the AO at the main admission office and Viterbi admission AO, I actually became quite friendly with them. I think this helped with the whole transfer process. They knew we were all in and very committed to sending our daughter to USC. This helped alleviate a lot of the stress of waiting on them. Just my two cents. Wishing you guys hear great news back soon.
Hello,
This is our story on housing. My daughter got in on the first wave 5/24 early. So we signed up for everything that day, and called tech support to get her net ID and login to secure housing. (If you are still waiting on the login, just call tech support and you will get it fast)
After we got everything done, I spoke to my friends who had their kids go through ttp and their advice was look for housing outside of dorms. Why, you ask? Because we will get the leftover housing no one wants. So we visited victory, tusk villas, gateway, and the 2 Hubs. We ended up signing a lease with the Hub apartment. (They are currently running a promotion for $250 off rent for the lease)
My daughter heard back from SC few days ago on her housing assignment and my friends were right. She got assigned a double with a RA as her roommate. I am not saying this is bad but she wanted her own room without a roommate because she is a stem major and her hours will run late.
With this being said, even if you’re late to the game, you will be offered on campus housing. So do not worry if you haven’t heard back from SC.
If anyone is interested in the Hub, just dm me I can send you their email and the promotion email. Wishing everyone the best!
I forgot to mention, the Hub has a matching system so they will find housemates for your son. My daughter went with this route since she will have her own room. The plan we signed up for was 4 girls (with their own room) and 2 girls share a bathroom. They will all share the common room and kitchen with a washer and dryer. The unit comes fully furnished and with rent and utilities, it came out to @$2000 a month. It’s located at the end of Greek row and tons of food options on the street surrounding the apartment.
Thank you very much for sharing all of this info! And yes, we are passing on the dorms. My daughter just graduated from USC and recommended an apartment as a sophomore. We know about the Hub, the 505, West, etc. I will definitely look into their roommate matching opportunities as it’s really about finding a roommate fit. Thanks again and best wishes to your daughter.
Thank you so much - you are helping calm my nerves!
Daughter got in tonight - hurray! Hope everyone w SGR hears soon/good news for all.
Omg!! Congratulations!!! You guys must be so thrilled!!!
Boom! Son just got accepted to Marshall fall 2024! Uploaded his unofficial transcript from SMC 2 days ago, emailed his counselor afterwards and got the decision a couple of hours ago. Totally worth the wait. He ended up with a 3.8 GPA at SMC. Will be transferring in with 41 credits. Fight on!!
