hey spt. did you regular decision or scholarship decision?

my d is waiting for reply on her app in usc. i m kinda of nervous about the saftey of the campus. heard quite a bit of really bad incidents happening on campus. any inputs from anyone visited the campus ?

the campus is beautiful, the area around is ok, you just have to be careful at night. It just depends what part of LA you go to.

uurgggg, that is my rents concern as well. Safety in LA. I would love to hear some more input about this as well.
Thanks!

the cost is a little high but you just have to apply for financial aid and grants and scholarship

The funny thing is, the first (and only) school my dad told me not to go to was USC because of the area.
Aaand…from a little after that, I began to get interested in the school even though I was sure I’d never get in. (that’s the attitude I had when visiting, too…I was almost disappointed when I liked it so much)
Teenage rebel side of me speaking? I don’t know. I just think it’s funny because my parents try not to limit me, but I’m always asking for SOME boundaries to help me narrow down my options.

Honestly, I didn’t even notice the area around the school. It might be that I was tired, though. But nothing around it was screaming DANGER!!! at me.

At Chapman, on the other hand, there were some armed police outside of a building. We figured it was some kind of drill instead of a real issue, though.

+1 post to the no-life count! ;)

usc 's area is not bad just depends where you go in la

I go to USC every weekend for art classes and the thing is that it is one of the worst neighborhoods in LA, but at the same time it’s nothing to freak out about. During the day, I’m sure you would be perfectly fine walking around the area to the different fast food joints they have around there. But at night is when I’m sure it gets really sketchy. The tragic incidents that have happened lately have been at night. Basically, if you have common sense than you’ll be OK. A lot of people, even people who are from LA overreact about USC’s surrounding area.

I do, to some extent, agree that it kind of sucks that it’s not in a college town. This makes it absolutely necessary to have a car (or at least have quite a few generous friends who have cars). A Metro line is opening near the campus this year, but in order to have fun outside of on-campus parties I’m assuming that students have to venture out into Santa Monica, Hollywood, etc. Which is fun, but sometimes I do think that it would be nice if USC had a Westwood like UCLA does, where there is a local bar and there’s a college-y feel throughout the neighborhood. I don’t know. But then again, nothing compares to the awesome school spirit that USC has at on-campus events. So I think it evens out.

What do you guys think? Would you feel like you’re missing out on the college town experience if you went to USC?

I heard they have system where if you need to go anywhere at night, you call the usc cab and they can take you places, i dont think i will miss out on the college experience. you are right, usc is not safe at night, but as long you are inside and safe you should be good.

yikes, I need to rethink USC.

rethink usc?

^ lol…stay west of the highway and your fine, don’t wander by yourself and don’t be stupid ie: leave a laptop case exposed in your car. As stated above, common sense and your fine

Thanks guys for all ur inputs. if she is accepted …i will probably go n take a look.
