Trojan Wannabes (USC 2014 Hopefuls)

marmar pretty much said everything. common sense.

The area is fine, try to avoid east and south at night.

Maybe this is a little unrelated (but I know there are some people here interested in film), but since I’m a little bit of a behind-the-scenes dork , I thought it was really cool that they’re filming Lost today by where my mom works. She called at school (between classes) to tell me and I saw all their stuff when my bus home passed.
Weird, because lately I’ve been saying how it would be interesting to see Lost or Pirates (over the coming summer) filming here. As in…just two nights ago.

I wish I took film production…only my schedule was full, so. Yeah.
/random

My s is a USC hopeful, waiting for news. Will USC send out the first letters of acceptance next week? He applied before Dec. 1. Best to all who applied!

It’s not terribly difficult to get nonunion extra work in DC, trumpetcolor, I’m sure you can get it pretty easily in LA. It’s a great way to learn about how movies (or TV) are made. Sometimes they even pay you! Haha I imagine most projects in LA are paying. :)

Please use the search engine to find more threads on this subject. Campus crime is a national issue. There is not one campus in the U.S. free of crime. As I have written before even small rural campuses are not immune. Last year a freshmen female was killed on campus at Auburn Univ. in the evening. She was returning to her residence. Auburn, AL has a grand total of ONE stoplight. Shortly after a female was killed slightly off campus at the Univ. of North Carolina. There are incidents across the U.S. A family member was knocked down on a well lighted street across from the UGA campus in the evening. When the gang discovered he did not have any money they beat him terribly. Fortunately, a car came around the corner and the gang members ran. This took place in the college town of Athens, GA.

The following campuses are either urban or have been reported as having problems with crime: Univ. of Chicago, San Francisco State Univ., Georgia Tech, Yale, Univ. of Pennsylvania, Loyola of Chicago, Tulane, NYU, IIT, Boston College and Georgetown Univ.

After visiting parts of Philadelphia and Newark there is a vast difference between those areas and the SC neighborhoods.

Unfortunately, in the modern world today students must be careful at any campus, take safety measures seriously, keep track of laptops, IPods and follow campus guidelines using common sense precautions.

Emily, your parents may be interested to know Lee Trevino, Ray Romano, Gov. of Calif., Alfred Newman and other celebrities all have daughters at USC.

Gah!! I was just reviewing my application and noticed that I had a misspelled word in my essay. Is that a “turn off” for the admissions officers?

My mom called USC today about financial aid (we are very low income) and the guy on the phone with her strongly recommended I fill out the NTSAF, since my decision will be coming very soon. She said his tone of voice, the others things he said, and his back peddling made it sound like I got in. Woo!

cowman809: what are your stats like? You’ve got me hopeful now!

Decent. 3.91 W, 3.4 UW, 1940 superscore, 29 ACT.

If I get in, its my essays and ECs that do it.

Georgia Girl-thanks so much! You are exactly right! Safety is an issue at most urban schools. I have a plus and minus grid for all my college choices, and I will lessen that con for USC. Thank you for the sanity check. :)This is going to be the toughest decision I have ever made, assuming I get in to some of the schools I have applied to. Thank you for taking the time to write!

hola usc hopefuls, is it snowing where you guys are? here it is.

UGH. I know that the first wave went out on Jan 23 last year, and even though I’m on the east coast and won’t be hearing for a while after it’s sent, when my mom said I got something in the mail from USC today, I was really excited. But it was only a postcard reminding me to fill out my FAFSA etc. D:

I am getting SO antsy! I wish I could just know already.

Is anyone else looking at the USC YouTube and obsessively listening to the Fight Song while picturing yourself at the Coliseum? Is anyone else staring at online pictures of the campus for five minutes at a time? Is anyone else taking virtual tours of the dormitories?

AHHHH! Sometimes I wish I didn’t have all my heart into one highly selective, impossibly perfect university. :(

I check up on the webcam quite frequently…and whenever I see a picture of the campus, I feel like I know it already.
Which worries me a bit, because I don’t think I should feel that way about a place I’ve only been to once.
I kind of wish I were 10 years older, living at a time when colleges weren’t so selective. Or more devoted to high school. Or something. OR that I would stop getting my hopes up.

And I wish it were snowing.
…Not really, that’s too cold. But it’s so hot at home. Even yesterday at school. And school is usually (relatively) cold.

Anyone chance me?

GPA: 3.62 UW (uw calculated by another school, maybe slightly off) 3.96 W
rank 63/318 (extremely competitive, 4 kids already got into Penn ED this year)
10 honors and 4 AP courses 9-12 grade
SAT: 2010 - 710m/670cr/630w
ACT: 35

ECs:

-CIT at a Boy Scout camp for 8 weeks Summer 2006
-Venture Patrol Leader for one year
-tons of service hours from Troop stuff

Student Pilot License (40 hrs logged, taking my written next week hell yea!)

Employed part-time cashier Summer 2007-present (10-19hrs/week during school, 20-30 hrs/week during summer, pays for flying)

Tutored another student for a semester in 9th grade (algebra I), brought his grade from D to B

NHS

Spring track grade 11/12

Internship at Chamber of Commerce first semester of senior year, 2 hours/day twice a week, small business stuff

Volunteer 2 days/week at local senior center, started October, I have about 30 hours

^ You might want to start a chance thread in the USC forum instead.
Since I’m already here, I’ll just tell you that you seem pretty up to par with stats and EC’s. So you have as good a chance as anyone really. If your essays and recommendations are good then your chances are even better. So don’t stress at this point. You’ve already applied, and now all you have to do is wait (I know it’s easier said than done). Just have fun this semester (NOT senioritis though) and relax!

Early admit letters should be going out VERY soon if they haven’t already been postmarked…I’m pretty anxious. Good luck to everyone!

Part of me wishes that I weren’t keeping such a track on this stuff! I applied for scholarship consideration but I know I won’t get a scholarship because I’m not a URM and I only have a 3.88 UW and a 30 ACT. Anyways, I love USC! Just as much as all of us!

We should promise to meet each other provided we end up on the same campus next year.
I don’t know about me; even if I get in, I don’t think I can afford it.

Anyways, I also applied to
Ohio State University
Arizona State University
University of Arizona
Northern Arizona University
And have been accepted to all, which would make a USC rejection extra rejection…y.

that would be cool we ended going to see and meeting everybody on this “usc 2014 hopeful” like omg you effiel from cc or oxolojo from cc

We should definitely have a reunion in September if this all works out!

oxolojo, you have a pretty high GPA. It’s actually higher than the avg. matriculant GPA, which is 3.7. I’ve heard that CLAS is even a 3.6 or a 3.5 but I could be wrong. I’m pretty sure that the harder schools like Marshall and Viterbi bump up the average freshman GPA.
