Trouble with the English section? Usage and Mechanics?

I took a practice English ACT, and I got 9 incorrect. And 8 of them were Usage and Mechanic errors.

Before I thought I had problems with Rhetoricals, but I found out that you should only choose the answer that is proven directly by the writing.

But I’ve been reviewing Usage and Mechanics for over 3 days now… And I still make errors for it? Isn’t that the easiest part of the test?

Can someone give me a website to help me master it? I feel as if I’ve learned some ‘bad’ rules and haven’t really mastered the structure — Such as “, but” = “;” = “.” ect.

How is this wrong?
“Equipment for both types of kayaks are similar”

What should I be checking for agreement?

Subject verb agreement. Take out all the padding, i.e. anything that isn’t the subject or the verb (‘for both types of kayaks’ and ‘similar’)

So now you have “Equipment are”. It just sounds wrong first of all. Equipment is singular, so it needs a singular verb. The correct sentence should be “Equipment for both types of kayaks is similar”.

Hope that helps a little bit.
