Trouble with the 'Tax Form Upload' function on CSS Profile

I am concerned that this is a phishing situation as others have not heard of this function.

Has anyone had any success (or failure) populating parents’ financial info from the tax form using this function from CSS Profile? When I select the pdf of my tax form to be uploaded and then click SAVE AND CONTINUE, I get a blank screen , and a waiting message at the bottom left , and eventually I get the login screen, apparently I was timed out and logged out of CSS. I am doing this in Chrome. Am I supposed to enable some sort of popup perhaps?

Tax Form(s) Upload or Entry
There are multiple methods to help you easily get your U.S. tax data into your PROFILE application:

  • Upload your U.S. tax form and the data will be read from your U.S. tax return and saved into your PROFILE application
  • Fill in an online form for U.S. tax information that will save the data into your PROFILE application

If you don’t wish to use either of these methods, please select “I don’t have a U.S. tax document” and click the Save and Continue button.

Note: At any point, you can return to this menu to upload/fill in your U.S. tax forms.

the return screen says the following…

same problem. We were told by University to use this feature so hoping for a response back from CSS soon.

I’m having the same problem with the parent upload, and although the student’s PDF did upload, it is not all filled in… I get a screen showing a tax form with only a few of the numbers (and none of the name, SS, etc info) filled in. And NO instructions what to do with it? Am I to manually fill it in?? What??

UPDATE 4-3… they have improved but not fixed the tax upload problem - for me , at least. It no longer just hangs, but it did not populate the form correctly. there were a couple zeros in a few places , but no other substantial numbers. anyone else having problems with this function?

Roderick…I hate to,say it…but why don’t you just hand enter the data.

I recall from past use of css that some of the fields were not clear on their meaning, and I thought that it would take my guessing out of the process. This is the real reason they set up this function as putting in name, address, and zip and a few number buckets are not that onerous to do.

For example, If they ask for wages from work, does that mean a pension? The pension was not from work done in '14, but it was from work done 20 years .

Plus, the university in the FA instructions advised us to use this function . I suspect that FA likes this function as it normalizes and ensures correct responses in the buckets across students.

Looks like next year in CSS.

No…wages from work are wages from WORK…not a pension. Your pension will be counted as income…but not wages from work.

I haven’t completed a Profile on a while…but my recollection was that it was similiar to the fafsa…and told you exactly which line to take the data from off of your tax form. Has that changed?

Wages from work and pension income are not listed on the same lines on the tax form.

I just manually filled out the 2014 tax form and then the next screen presented to me was CSS asking what my ESTIMATED income would be for 2014. That is strange.
