Truck plows into crowd on Bourbon street New Years Eve

Here is a political thread in the politics section about this incident: https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/political-thread-about-truck-attack-in-new-orleans/3680330

The same AP News page says that ā€œJabbar [the deceased suspect] joined the Army in 2007, serving on active duty in human resources and information technology and deploying to Afghanistan from 2009 to 2010, the service said. He transferred to the Army Reserve in 2015 and left in 2020 with the rank of staff sergeant.ā€

The fact that there were IEDs both inside & outside of the truck is really scary. It sounds like it could have been much worse, I’m assuming if not for the police presence (and the brave actions of those officers). The possibility of accomplices was mentioned in an article I read. I understand why the football game was postponed.

Question answered. Thanks for the free link @parentologist

The four ā€œSuspectsā€ that were thought to have planted ā€œPotentialā€ IEDs were random innocent people.

All four were questioned by the authorities. And let go.

I’m mentally exhausted by all of the bad people in the world. I used to believe most people were good and that malevolence was the exception. How naive I was. Our world is a bottomless pit of evil. Yes, there are good people in the world, but right now it’s hard to see when everywhere you look you see people willing to be just the worst.

It’s so sick and depressing, really.

I think that there are two critically injured Israelis, but no Israelis reported killed.

So horribly sad. Young lives cut down, all for a murderous ideology.
