<p>White Male, from Texas
3.9 UW, 5.3 Weighted, taken 16 AP classes, Class rank 3/700, 31 ACT (retaking in September), I got sick during my first SAT so I have to retake it in October (I got a 1950 but I pretty much bombed 3/10 sections so that score isn’t a good predictor of how I will do), 760 Us History, 720 Math II, I’m very involved, hold several leadership positions, 2 varsity sports, good awards, excellent recs, great essays.</p>

<p>You just condensed the 3 or 4 years of highschool into 4 lines. It’s kind of hard to judge when you do it like that, and it’s also sort of an eyesore.</p>

<p>Regardless:</p>

<p>The AP classes show that you will challenge yourself, but I pray you didnt get all 1s and 2s, otherwise there’s not much of a point. A 31 in ACT seems a little low for Duke but not unheard - try for at least a 33. For SAT, get 2200+, pref 2300+. You have a great gpa and class rank. But saying ‘I hold several leadership positions’ doesn’t really say anything about you. Are they political clubs? Nerdy clubs? Volunteer clubs? Go into more detail. </p>

<p>Why are your recs excellent? Did your teachers love you and did you bust your arse, or are you just throwing that in there? Are you captain of either of the sports teams? And which awards did you get? And how do you know your essays are going to be great? Do you even know the prompt yet? Are you going to get help?</p>

<p>Assuming the leadership roles are worthwhile, the awards aren’t some silly thing, recs and essays are excellent, then if you raise your SAT to 2200+ or ACT to 33+, you would stand a good shot at Duke and comparable schools.</p>

Out of curiosity – What scale does your school calculate GPAs on? 5.0 is the maximum weighted GPA you can get at mine.</p>
