Truth or myth re Eastern Kentucky University????

I’m currently considering Eastern Kentucky University but I have heard a lot of rumors about it being a big party school. This would not be considered a benefit for me because I do not want to be involved in that type of college experience. Quite frankly I want to stay as far away as possible. Has anybody heard anything about this, or do you have any advice for me?

I do not know about that school, however many state schools have many different types of students. a large segment would probably be into the party scene. that said I am sure that many students are like you, you just need to seek them out! if you live on campus try and get a single room. if it is really a concern maybe look at some other schools.

It can be a challenge to live with people who party a lot. Some campuses have “quiet” dorms or floors, or honors dorms, or no-substance dorms. Find out if this university has that. Another option is to live off campus. You may have more control over you roommates and living situation.

Community colleges and commuter-oriented universities tend to have less partying associated with the school (though commuter students may party in other contexts).

Women’s colleges often also have a less intense party scene.

In my part of Kentucky, Eastern has the reputation of being the school for kids who can’t get in to UK. Continuing the stereotype, they couldn’t get in because they partied too much in high school and never took academics seriously. Remember that it is always good to consider stereotypes with a large grain of salt while recognizing that there is likely some truth to it at some level.

Since Richmond is only a half hour drive from Lexington, UK athletics are usually more popular than EKU’s home teams. The campus definitely empties out on weekends since many students go home often. At least this would make it quieter.

FWIW, I would consider both Western and Northern, even Murray, better in-state choices, depending on your major of course.

The fact that you and “your part of Kentucky” even have the audacity to say that EKU is just a school that kids go to, because they weren’t good enough to get into UK, proves how big of an air-head you are.
UK is a sorry excuse for a university. It’s a money racket. I’d honestly rather attend my community college than UK…at least I know I’d be getting a much better education. In your defense, I will say this, EKU is definitely a party school, but that doesn’t mean students don’t choose to go there. A lot of students that apply for EKU, don’t even bother applying for UK.
If you even wanted to pretend like EKU is some sort of ‘last resort’, at least you could say they couldn’t get accepted into universities worth attending like Georgetown, Transy, or Centre.

Thanks for the laugh!
