I’ve been very interested in doing a fundraiser for a while now. I found a very reliable site that promotes fundraisers and a lot of people have been successful through the site. Some people come on there just to donate money. Even when people don’t reach their goals in how much they want to make, they still have a lot of money that could be useful for what they’re supporting. I’m interested in doing a fundraiser through the site for a non-profit organization. The money will go straight to the organization too so I don’t have to put in any of my personal information. I’m only fourteen too so that’s a great thing. I haven’t figured everything out as far as my whole campaign but I don’t want to do it without my parents knowing. How do I tell them about my whole situation? I feel like they won’t be supportive.

Why not do a fund raiser for one of your local organizations that you support? An example might be your local APL if you want to help animals, or your local children’s hospital.

Fundraising is a heavily regulated activity. Does this website meet the legal requirements for fundraising? Will a donor get a tax deduction for the gift? Does the organization that will receive the money need to participate and to show compliance with federal, state, and local rules?

I’d stay with a local organization. But don’t start your own activity. Go to the organization and ask about participating in one of their projects. Be sure they’ll cover things like insurance and legal clearances. Then do what they tell you.

Check out the percentage of funds raised that actually helps the organization- how much does the site take for itself? I personally am not a fan of fundraisers- I would rather give directly to the organization. At 14 why not do some volunteering on your own? I would definitely discuss this with your parents. If they are on board and willing to help with their advice, great. If they nix the idea wait until you are of legal age and reinvestigate the idea. I would NOT support you in this endeavor. I would support you doing volunteer work. The time you spend trying to do a fundraiser is likely better spent in other ways.

If you haven’t been involved in volunteering for an organization , do a little research on the local level to see what you can or cannot do . Some have age restrictions due to liability. I think it is wonderful that you want to take on such a task , but I would discuss it with your parents and take it from there. Good luck !

If I recall [url=http://www.charitynavigator.org]Charity Navigator - America’s Largest Charity Evaluator | Home/url is a site that lets you know which charities send their monies to the charity and which use a high percentage for adminsitrative expenses…

My youngest daughter recently organized a fundraiser, and she discovered how much of a challenge it is! I can imagine this kind of activity becoming the core of a really good application essay. D3 used http://gogetfunding.com/ for hers and has been very happy with it.

I’m confused as to why you don’t think your parents would be supportive of your efforts to make the world a better place?
