Trying to predict cost of attendance at Berry College

I have my heart set on Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia. It is a private college; the entire student population is under 2,100 and the average class size is 18-22 students, so I really love how personal the education I will be receiving there will be. However, the cost of tuition, room and board, meal plan, and other fees/expenses add up to be $37,329, which isn’t too terrible considering the fact that this is pretty all-inclusive and most students qualify for $18,000 in merit based scholarships. Anyways, my mom and I have filed for the 2013-2014 FAFSA and my EFC is literally zip, zero, nothing. I already know this, and I know that I can get the HOPE scholarship on top of the financial aid that I receive from Berry, but I am wondering, how can I possibly make up for the difference? I do not come from a well-to-do family; I am the third person in my family to ever pursue a college education, so needless to say, we are not rich–barely middle class. Are there any other scholarships that I can apply for with a 3.8 GPA and a 1770 SAT score? I’m planning to major in Biology and do the Pre-Medical program Berry College offers.

It is perfectly OK to let Berry know that it is your first choice, but that finances are a serious issue for you. It would be good if you and your mom can sit down with a financial aid officer to discuss this.

HOPE & Zell Miller will contribute more $ for private tuition. You will have the GPA & you have until the end of spring term ( check with your GC for exact date) to meet the test score. Have you taken the ACT yet? You need at least a 26 & not much more on the SAT for a 1200 m+cr. It’s certainly worth the effort since your HOPE GPA is so high. Zell adds $4000 /year for private colleges like Berry!
