This “celebrate your nerdy side” essay is the last essay I need to complete my Tufts application. I want to write about competing in my areas local Super Smash Brothers Melee tournaments. I think i could write a good essay about the topic but I’m also unsure if writing about video games in a college essay is such a good idea. So basically, should I or should I not use this topic?

I had heard several selective admissions people state during information sessions that students should not write about video games, therefore I recommend you find another way to express “your nerdy side” to Tufts. : )

I picked this prompt too! In my humble opinion, if you think you can write a good essay about the topic, do so–this is your application and your story. It’s about who you are, not who you think adcoms want you to be.

Don’t write about video games unless you developed and published an app.

When I see the words geeky or nerdy side what I really read is intellectual side.
