“If statistics were our primary decision point, accountants could replace admissions officers…Qualitative information shapes the texture of an incoming class: It gives it heart and soul and style and definition. The perspective we glean from a well-written essay with a clear and compelling voice or a thoughtful teacher recommendation that notes the provocative questions a student raises in a class discussion distinguish a qualified student from a most compelling contender as the acceptance rate moves toward 27 percent” - (2004) Lee Coffin, Dean of Undergraduate Admissions at Tufts

In other words, while solid statistics and an intriguing resume are important factors, Chance Me threads make it nearly impossible to grasp the special oomph that will make you a compelling candidate. One of the things I really love about the Admissions Committee at Tufts is that they really do make an effort to look beyond statistics and see you for you. After getting to know several of my fellow incoming freshman, I truly feel like our eccentricities were embraced and that’s what made the difference. My best advise would be to take that to heart as much as possible in your application. If you are emotionally invested in the supplemental questions, it will show. If you’re quirky, be quirky…if you’re a nerd, be a nerd, etc. I promise they’ll appreciate it. Now, enough of these Chance Me threads! ;)
