Tuition Calculators

what are some good tuition calculators out there?
I would like to calculate it using my EFC.

Have you tried the NPC calculators on your schools’ websites?

i dont think buffalo university has it

[Net Price Calculator | UB Office of Financial Aid](http://financialaid.buffalo.edu/costs/netpricecalculator/index.php)

is it really accurate? i’m depending on this because may 1st is the deadline and i would like to make a decision as soon as possible.

Deadline for what? I don’t understand.

they mailed me a letter and this is what it said.
"you will need to submit a 150$ tuition deposit to reserve your place prior to may 1st.

They don’t meet need, so don’t commit until you get your FA package.

what do you mean they dont meet need?
and btw how do i pay the my residence hall deposit? im so new to this T_T

It means they can leave gaps between your EFC and COA, and your parents have to take loans or you will not be able to attend. You have to look at your finaid packages from all the universities you applied to and compare them before you commit to any school and pay enrollment deposit, housing deposit etc.

Do not rush to commit to any school until you have all of your financial aid information and can figure out exactly which school will be the most affordable for your family. Schools like to pressure kids at this point to commit so that you won’t then decide to go somewhere else. Once you pay the deposit, it is non-refundable, so most students won’t lose that deposit and stick with the decision they have made. You have until May 1, so take your time. To pay the deposit, most schools have that information on their website. They will either want you to mail a check, or may even have a way for you to pay online. Don’t rush it, though!

Your FAFSA EFC should have been ON your SAR when you completed the FAFSA. The FAFSA EFC would be the minimum amount your family would be expected to pay at UB as they do not guarantee to provide full aid between your EFC and their cost of attendance.

Lili…have you completed your financial aid application for UB? If you did so on time, and you have been accepted, you should be receiving your financial aid package very soon.

As others have said, just wait.

If you did not complete the financial aid application, that is another story.

yeah i completed my fafsa early february and got accepted late february like around the 15th. is an efc of 905 enough to cover half the tuition of around 20,000?

If your EFC is $900, you should get a Pell grant of about $4400. You will also get a stafford loan of $5500.

I am not a TAP expert, but if you are a NY state resident, wouldn’t you also be eligible for this?

I would suggest that you give UB a quick phone call to find out when their financial aid awards will be sent. You should also check your accepted student link on their website to see if your financial aid award was posted online.

sorry T_T im new to all this

Thank you! :)

Lilichen, you need to apply for TAP. Go to the TAP site and it will tell you exactly what you have to do. You also need to contact UB and find out what financial aid they have for you. At minimum you will get some PELL, Stafford Loans, and TAP if you are eligible for those funds. Are you a citizen/legal resident? Also for TAP, you have to have been in NY state for 12 consecutive months.

Though UB does not guarantee to meet need, you have good chance of having about $15K covered though various programs. The first year, you will need to come up with the rest, but for this school, it is very possible to live cheaply off campus your second year, and cut living costs down quite a bit. A lot of kids do that.

The thing is, do you also have commuting options? SUNY tuition is very reasonable and PELL would cover it for you. It’s the room and board that is going to be the issue and it tends to be high at SUNY schools.

You don’t need “tuition calculators”…you need your FA pkg from that school. Send an email to the FA office at UB and ask when you’ll receive.

Do what you need to get TAP. Follow the advice above.

Also, do the NPC calculator on the link above.

Yes, at this point, the tuition calculators are moot. They are in place to assist you on getting your list together in terms of applications. You need to know what your package is at this point, and you need to know NOW. You got a flag about your citizenship issues a while ago. You responded to it. But now you need to find out whether the response was received. Most importantly has UB gotten the information? Have they even put together a package for you? Work with a financial aid counselor to make sure that your information is correct. If you are eligible, you should get PELL and Staffords at least, and you will need to apply for TAP for which it appears you are eligible. It doesn’t happen by itself, however.
