Tuition exchange waitlist

What is the likelyhood that my daughter will get off the TE waitlist? There are a total of 6 including initial recipants infornt of her. I assume about 3 awards then three other waitlisted people infornt of her. This is her number one school and she was crushed when she found out she didn’t receive it and she doesn’t want to go anywhere else for college… Thanks

It’s hard to say. I had one kid who never came off the waitlist (went to my employer instead) and another who was accepted for TE at 5 schools. All gave a date to accept/decline. So, in that second case, 4 kids came off the waitlists when my youngest declined.

Personally, I would not count on coming off that list. If there are three TE awards, all the initial recipients and the next three on the waitlist would have to decline. It could happen, but I don’t think it’s likely. Hopefully, she applied to TE at more than once school and she has a safety (your employer, maybe?) she can look at. There is always the chance, too, that the regular fin aid package from the school she really wants to attend will be affordable. I do think you need to start getting her to think about Plan B.

I am surprised that you have heard this early about the TE awards, and it makes the question of the waitlist tricky since many schools don’t announce the TE scholarships until mid- to late-March. When our son applied to three TE eligible colleges last year he got two TE awards and one TE waitlist, but all notified him in late March. So one thing I think you might want to prepare your daughter for is not hearing anything more for awhile (which makes the need for a plan B even more important). Because the three kids ahead of her who were offered TE scholarships may themselves be waiting to hear form other TE schools before deciding, and that might not happen for another month or two.
