Tuition increases for next year

I think it’s a 7% increase, but it’s actually hard to compare now that fees are separately listed together (whereas some fees previously were included in tuition and some, like house dues, were separate). This doesn’t surprise me, but it’s a bit more than I thought it would be. I interviewed Dr. Baltimore for an article, and he basically said that we were below the cost of peers (which is trure, but which is what I consider a good thing). On the flip side, a couple more years of these 7% increases, and then we’ll be matching the rest of the schools at 4-5% annual increases.

4.1% + 3.5% increases in different parts of tuition doesn’t mean 7.something% :-P. i once heard of a corporate official justifying a price increase in that kind of way…

it may well be that the tuition has hopped 7% – just hopefully the number wasn’t obtained by adding the constituent increases.

I assumed tuition this year to be something around $27500 and tuition to be $28515+$1080, which actually is more like 7.6% (but then I need to deduct ASCIT + house dues, at least, from next year’s estimate).

It’s also worth noting that tuition for incoming students will be higher – I think I heard 6-8% raise from this year (about twice the increase for current students)

This is interesting. I need to really research financial aid at Caltech. I wonder what qualifications one must have to receive financial aid. Are loans very common? I think I’ll go to the Caltech website and research there too.

I think about 59% of the students here receive some form of financial aid; you should have very good chances at getting either payment reduction/deferral if you apply.
