tuition waiver appeal

can you please read and put some suggestions on how i can make this better. I am a sophmore and I have good grades until this last semester and i had a bad semester and now i have to go through this process to get my waiver back. I dont know what to write or how to write it

What happened?

Well this semester I struggled from the beginning. As a hard working student and having experience in college, I realized that I should have focused and pushed harder. I was diagnosed during the summer with what is called Central Auditory Processing disorder. It is a disorder that not only effects your ears but it is a neurological disorder that effects the way you process information. Having Capd is a lifelong disability. I really tried hard to not let it affect me but it did. I am registered in the disabilities office and I have CART and time and a half on my test. Having CAPD is very difficult. When it comes to listening and sitting in lecture and you can’t focus because the teacher is talking fast or there is other back ground noise is difficult to filter out. Also having CAPD is like it takes you longer to read a lot. Having that all said having a disability and overcoming that is very difficult. This is the first semester that I have had to deal with that and go through the process and learn how to use all of my resources. I also struggled this semester with extracurricular activities and trying to take 15 hours. Being in band was not easy. We always had something going on and every Saturday we had a game. But being in band and having a disability has taught me strength, determination, and time management. Being able to balance both is really key and I didn’t do that well. The one class that I struggled the most in was history. I struggled in that class because it required a lot of reading and a lot of memorization. My history teacher had the highest failure rate on campus and she made you read so much. She is very monotone and she always told you at the beginning of class that you will fail her class. I even went to my academic advisor and I even tried to talk to see what I could do but nothing worked. I pushed through and fought until the end of the semester. In my history class she made you read two books and you only had 3 tests. It was really hard.

Also even though I did badly this one semester, if you look at my previous grades from the past two semesters I have had all As and Bs. I really work hard and I fight and never give up.

Why is this important to me?
School is very important to me because I work really hard and fight every day. Having a disability isn’t easy and a lot of people with disabilities do not even go to school. I am a fighter and fight until I can’t fight anymore. School is also important to me because my dad and mom aren’t together and my mom is a single parent. My dad has a negative view on me and because I have a disability he thinks that I can’t accomplish anything and I want to prove that even with a disability you can accomplish anything. School is also important to me because even as a young child I didn’t have anything and I know in this world without a degree I can’t do anything.

What did I do this semester to try to pass my classes?
Well even though I failed that one class I did get involved in tutoring with STARS. I went and got tutoring on Mondays from 4-5 and then on Tuesday morning from 9-10. It really helped but I still struggled. I also got involved with the STARS mentoring program and I had Ms. Rachel Hoover. Ever since I started working with her I became a better student. I learned how to study and takes notes and be a better student all around. I even would study. Even when I was sick I went to class. I fought until the end.

What do I plan on doing for next semester to improve my grades?

I have been in contact with my academic advisor and I am in stars and I plan on continuing with tutoring. I have set up and plan to continue to be in the mentoring program. The way I scheduled my classes this semester is to where I go in the morning and I have the afternoon to study go to tutoring and be the best student I can be, I am going to use my agenda and plan two days ahead. I won’t wait til the last minute to do assignments and I plan on going to any extra time with my professors. I also plan on using the disabilities services and going see Mr. Kyle every couple of weeks. I will be using cart again but I am going to really take advantage of that. I am going to retake that class that I failed and I will be a better student all in all. This semester with my struggles I have realized that I can overcome anything and that I have come out stronger. I also plan on being in the library and studying in groups. I also pan on not being in marching band this semester or in color guard. I need to focus on school and do my best.

Why do I need or deserve to get my waiver back?

The reason I need my tuition waiver is because that is the only way I can go to school. My mom is a single parent and cant afford to put me through school without my tuition waiver. I deserve my tuition waiver because I have overcome a lot of adversities and challenges in school. I have shown that I can do it and I push and work hard every day. I also deservere it back because I have never been on academic probation or anything. I promise if you allow me one more chance I won’t disappoint you.
