I was wondering what my chances of being accepted into UM Engineering with in-state tuition if my sister and her husband are Alumni. (I dont live in Michigan although I previously did)
And how well does an FRC or VEX Robotics team look on your application.
You won’t receive in-state tuition unless you are actually a MI resident.
If you are a veteran, reservist or on active duty (or your spouse is) you also get in-state tuition. Same if you graduated from a Michigan high school (and attended for 3 years). Check out the requirements here:
For the FRC experience, it will depend on your quality of involvement. It is very common for an engineering applicant, especially one from Michigan, to have been on a team. Because of this, the university will want to see some leadership or other proof of in-depth participation: Dean’s List nomination from your team, sub-team lead, officer, etc. FRC-related volunteer work also looks good.
